No Fix No Fee?

We would love to be able to fix every device and would love to be able to give you your device back working as it should be. Some devices are just beyond repair or need to be taken to a Micro-Soldering Specialist. Our expertise has taken years to acquire, so we charge £20 for any device which we are not able to repair. This by no means covers our costs, as we sometimes spend in excess of an hour or two working through different options to get your device working again. In the event that you have called us out to your location, we will only charge you the call out fee plus £10. If we are unable to repair your device, we may still be able to help get your device fixed and may even be able to get your data recovered. We have teamed up with a specialist “Micro-Soldering Board Level Repair Company” here in Bristol specifically to ensure we get your device fixed in almost all cases.

Too Busy to Come to Us?

We know you are busy, so we offer a service where we come to you. We will arrive in a Red DrFixit Van at your home or work or wherever you want. Our vans are fully fitted with all the necessary tools to get your device working in no time. Did I mention our call out charge starts from only £15 to come to you? I am sure you agree… that level of convenience makes perfect sense. To find out more, please visit our page If We Come To You.

12 Month Warranty

We will not use cheap parts and will certainly not do a botch job either. You can rely on us. If you have any problems after the repair has been completed, just give us a call.

iPhone 14 Pro Max Known Issues

A cracked back means a whole new housing

Hugh Jeffreys rebuilt a 14 Pro Max that had taken a hit to the rear hard enough to bend the stainless steel frame and push the screen out of the body. That’s one phone, not a trend. What matters for everyone else is how the back glass is fitted. The standard iPhone 14 has a rear panel that comes off on its own. The 14 Pro and Pro Max don’t. So, a smashed back means stripping out every part and moving it into a new frame: logic board, cameras, Face ID, battery, MagSafe magnets, buttons, the lot.

No service, but Wi-Fi still works

Jesse at VCC Board Repairs explains that the 14 Pro Max logic board is two boards stacked and soldered together. Wi-Fi lives on the top layer and the cellular modem on the bottom. Running the top layer alone, his phone booted with working touch and Wi-Fi, but showed No Service. His description says that’s what you get when the layers separate: no signal, or stuck on searching. The fix is board-level: re-applying solder to the joining pads and pressing the layers back together. His first attempt failed and had to be redone by hand. He filmed this at launch, so treat it as a warning, not a measured failure rate.

Battery life and screen brightness in early use

Max Tech’s reviewers found battery life weaker than recent iPhones over their first two weeks: one 14 Pro Max was down to 18% before 4:30pm. They blamed much of it on the screen. Auto-brightness kept choosing a brighter level than older iPhones, possibly because of a second ambient light sensor on the back, and the always-on display often looked brighter than it needed to. Their workaround was manual brightness plus a Focus mode that dims the lock screen. They did find the Pro Max dimmed less from heat than the smaller 14 Pro.
