3D Embossed Film - More Info...

iphone back glass replacementBack glass replacement iPhone using 3D Forward Embossed Film is a relatively fast, simple & safe procedure.  Firstly you select the pattern you would like, then using the Forward Universal Film Cutting Machine, we select your phone manufacturer and model.  This pulls up a template of the back of your phone, we then load the 3D Embossed Film you choose in to the machine & cut the film to the pattern of the back of your phone.  Your iPhone cracked back is then cleaned to ensure a good bond from the film.  The film is then carefully placed on to the back iPhone cracked glass.  The 3d Forward Embossed Film has properties where it responds to heat, so we then smooth off all the edges to ensure that the film does not come away from the back of the smashed back of iPhone easily.

iPhone Back Glass Replacement Bristol, Brislington & Keynsham - Using Blue Laser

If you want to replace glass on back of iPhone, then using a Forward Blue Laser Separation Machine is the best way to accomplish this.  The glue that Apple uses to adhere the glass to the back of their iPhone is very very hard to degrade or soften.  Some repairers claim to be able to use heat to degrade the glue, but in my experience, this does not work, so this is how the laser machine solves that problem.

The Forward Blue Laser Separation Machine has a template of your phone programmed in to it.  We inspect the back of your phone glass & tape over any areas where the glass is missing.  We select the correct template for your phone, cover the cameras on your phone to ensure they are protected and then we then place your phone on to the laser machine bed & calibrate the laser to be the correct distance from your phone back glass.  This calibration ensures the laser only etches the glue in-between the glass & the phone frame.  The laser etching process then begins.

Removing the iPhone Shattered Back Glass

Some repairer who use fix iPhone back glass use impact to crack the glass once the glue has been degraded.  We do not, we use a Diamond Tipped Cutting Disc should we need to break any large glass fragments apart.  Please have a look at the FAQ where I lay out the chance of your iPhone encountering a yet unidentified issue for more details.  We then use a low amount of heat (Not as much heat is required as the glue is already degraded) and various tools to pry the glass from the back of the phone.  As we are removing the glass from the back of your iPhone, we tape over any opening that become visible to ensure that no shards of glass drop in to the inside of your phone.

Will my Wireless Charging & MagSafe Magnets still work after a Shattered iPhone Back Replacement?

Yes… We take great care to ensure the magnets & charging coil ar not damaged when removing the back glass.  We also have spare magnets in stock should your existing magnets have been damaged or have fallen out.  There is a small extra charge for this.  We also test these functions on your device prior to starting the job.

Installing New iPhone Back Glass

Once the glass has been removed, we clean the phone frame with pure Isopropanol Alcohol, which is widely used in the industry because it will not damage your phone components.  Next we place heat proof tape over the wireless charging coil & then place the glass on to the back of the phone to see that it is seated correctly.  If all is OK, we then apply glue, ensure the top back microphone mesh is reinstalled & install the new back glass.  The glass is then put in to a food vacuum bag to ensure that the pressure is distributed evenly as the glue dries.  Here is a short video is you interested in seeing the Blue Laser Machine in Action

Is Transferring to a New iPhone Housing the Best Option?

Yes & No, don’t you hate answers like that?  Depends on your budget really.  As you can see from the FAQ’s we go to great lengths to ensure that we do a First Class Job should you need to Fix Back of iPhone.  I don’t think you need to read any FAQ to know that repairing iPhone back to the way it would have been when first manufactured by Apple is the best quality, that is an obvious fact.  We can not get housings from Apple, I doubt they sell them to anyone, so there is a large market for used housing, referred to as Pulled or Reclaimed Housings in the industry.  These housing come graded as A, B, C or D quality.  We usually only buy A rated housings, which means the housing will be in pristine condition, with little to no wear or damage to the iPhone frame sides or back.  Often times the housings come with the small parts included, everything except the screen, main board & camera.  These parts are usually in very good condition, because the housing is A grade, which means the phone would have hardly been used.

We then disassemble you existing iPhone and transfer all the parts in to the reclaimed housing.  We take care to ensure that everything goes back exactly as it should be and test all the iPhone functions before & afterwards to ensure that your phone is working properly.  There is a slim chance that your phone may show up an error which was not detectable before your phone was disassembled.  Please look at my FAQ’s where I lay out why this is a possibility, even though it is a small possibility.

iPhone Back Glass Replacement - Does it include the Sides?

I was loathed to even answer this question, but some people seem to think that their phone should look like new after the back glass has bene replaced.  The back glass and phone frame are 2 separate parts, so when we do an iPhone back glass replacement Bristol, only the glass is replaced, not the frame of the phone.  If you want the frame reconditioned, a better choice would be to Transfer your iPhone to a Reclaimed / Pulled Housing.

Are Special Tools Needed to Replace Glass on Back of iPhone?

Yes….

iPhone Back Glass Glue Removal – The glue Apple uses to bond the glass to the iPhone metal frame is very difficult to degrade.  I tried to replace iPhone glass back just using hot air and a scapel and I did not managed to get the glue to soften sufficiently to remove the glass effectively.  The problem is that a substantial amount of heat is needed for a long period of time to soften the glue, where as a Forward Blue Light Laser Machine burns the glue very precisely between the glass and metal layer, this is why the laser has to be calibrated.

back glass replacement iphoneBreaking iPhone Back Glass – Once the glue has been degraded, the glass has to be removed using various pry tools.  It is necessary to break the glass in to smaller pieces to remove it in smaller bits, particularly around the camera lenses.  Most people use a glass breaking impact pen, it works by delivering impact at the tip with out striking the iPhone.  The problem with this is the iPhone back glass has already been smashed from your phone receiving some sort of impact.  Subjecting the phone to additional impact is a bad idea.  The components on the board of your iPhone are tiny & most people have dropped their phone more than once.  When these tiny components are subjected to numerous shocks, it is not unreasonable to think that a component can partially separate from the circuit board causing a fault.  We avoid subjecting your iPhone to any further impact or extended, excessive heat.  We break apart the glass by using a Diamond Tipped Cutting Blade, then apply a little pressure and the glass breaks in to smaller pieces.

Glue Distribution & Even Back Glass Pressure –  When bonding the iPhone back screen / glass, it is important to ensure enough adhesive is applied to the  frame of the phone.  We take particular care to ensure that we apply as much glue to the back of the phone as we can get away with, avoiding the wireless charging coil, which has already been taped over to protect it.  We then seat the glass in place & place the phone in to a food vacuum bag to ensure that the pressure on the new iPhone back glass is evenly distributed, which means there are no areas of tension within the back glass area.

Undetected Errors / Faults after an iPhone Back Replacement / Housing Transfer...

Knocks, Drops & Falls – Impacts add up, what do I mean by this?  The components used on an iPhone are tiny, which means that they are bonded to the board with a tiny amount of solder.  Each time the phone receives any form of impact that impact energy is transferred through each component.  Breaking the back glsss on an iPhone usually requires a fair amount of impact energy.  Chances are the phone has been dropped several times before, so the impacts are adding up.  It is not unreasonable to think that one of the hundreds of components that keep your iPhone operating error free could become dislodged or could have a cracked solder joint.

Glass Inside The Phone – Although it is uncommon, when iPhone back glass cracks, it is possible for some glass shards to make their way in to the iPhone housing.  These glass shards can cause internal problems with the phone, such as piecing the battery.  This is why when we remove the back glass, we tape over any openings in the aluminium frame as they become visible, but glass may have already made it way in to the housing when the iPhone back glass first got cracked

It Was Working Before You Touched It – As mentioned earlier, we do not use any impact when removing the back glass of your iPhone, how ever, the glass does take some work to remove and the phone is subjected to some vibration due to the diamond tipped cutting blade.  It is possible that a component which had been subjected to impact energy in the past could disconnect or form a break joint during during the repair process.  The other scenario is when a housing replacement is done, the phone needs to be dismantled, meaning the main circuit board needs to be removed & installed in to the reclaimed housing.  Whilst we take great care when transferring your circuit board to the reclaimed housing, as the screws which keep the circuit board in place are removed, this changes the torsion pressures which are currently being applied to the circuit board.  An already compromised component connection which was already compromised, but being kept in contact because of the tension the screws were exerting on the circuit board, could now present as a broken connection.
