6 Tips to Protect Your Samsung, Huawei / iPhone Screen

Touchscreen smartphones are built pretty tough. It sometimes surprises me how much abuse an Huawei, Samsung Smart Phone or iPhone Screen can take before it stops working. We do heaps of repairs around Bristol, Bath & Portishead town and the most common repair we do though is repairing damaged, cracked or totally smashed screens or lcd. Although these screens have been built to resist scratches and are sturdy enough to out last the normal wear & tear of the usable life of the phone, they can get damaged a whole lot easier than you may think.

Here are some neat tips for you to keep in mind…

1. The Obvious… Get a good quality cover

Fortunately most people do not take this basic mind boggling bit of advice seriously as this shortcoming just brings me more and more work. Get a good cover… Although you may like the look of a Mickey Mouse cover surrounding your phone, chances are the cover is badly designed and gimmicky. Poorly designed covers do little to protect your Huawei, Samsung Smart Phone or iPhone screen, often leading to your device being damaged and a trip to your local smart phone repair store in Bristol.

2. Only use your finger if you don’t wan’t to damage your iPhone screen

It is important that you use the right medium to manipulate the screen. Use your fingers or stylus only. While some devices may allow the use of pencils on touch screens, most smart phone screens will last a lot longer if you use your grubby little mits to take that next life changing selfie.

3. Protect your iPhone / Samsung / Huawei Screen from direct sunlight

Climate change is upon us! That debate for another time thanks… In the Bristol most people do not realise how hot the inside of a car gets when it is parked in the sun. Should you leave your iPhone / Samsung Smart Phone, iPad or Tablet in the path of direct sunlight in your car on a hot day, do not be surprised when your device no longer works. Hot temperatures not only effect the internal working of electronic devices, the heat can warp the screen or the entire smart phone.

4. Auto Screen Off

Most people would usually ensure either their settings are optimised to turn the screen off after say 30 seconds to a minute or would turn the screen off manually themselves as this saves battery power. If for whatever reason you have your screen turned on all the time, for example if you always have your phone plugged in to a power supply, the screen can leave a burnt shadow image on the screen even when the phone is off. Also note that having your iPhone, Samsung Smart Phone, iPad or Tablet plugged in longer than is required to charge the battery can cause the battery to swell, which will then cause the screen to bulge.

5. Careful cleaning

Electronics & liquid do not work well together. Some smartphone screens are not compatible with everyday soap solutions, so rather use a Micro Fibre Cloth and some Screen Cleaning Liquid to clean your screen. Take note… If your iPhone or Samsung Smart Phone is water resistant, that means it is literally splash proof resistant as in if you got a bit of liquid on the device by mistake and quickly cleaned it off, it would be ok. It does not mean you can pour liquid all over your device. If you device has been repaired, chances are it is no longer splash proof any more.

6. Screen protectors

If you can not live with the idea of a good quality cover, at least ensure your device has a screen protector fitted. They are available for a fraction of the cost of a new screen. Samsung smart phone screens in particular are expensive to replace because the phone electronics are built in to the screen, where as an iPhone screen is a separate part to the iPhone & are therefore cheaper to replace.
