If We Come To You

We know you are busy, so we offer a service where we come to you. We will arrive in a Red DrFixit Van at your home or work or wherever you want. Our vans are fully fitted with all the necessary tools to get your device working in no time. Did I mention our call out charge starts from only £15 to come to you? I am sure you agree… that level of convenience makes perfect sense. To find out more, please visit our page If We Come To You.

No Fix No Fee?

We would love to be able to fix every device and would love to be able to give you your device back working as it should be. Some devices are just beyond repair or need to be taken to a Micro-Soldering Specialist. Our expertise has taken years to acquire, so we charge £20 for any device which we are not able to repair. This by no means covers our costs, as we sometimes spend in excess of an hour or two working through different options to get your device working again. In the event that you have called us out to your location, we will only charge you the call out fee plus £10. If we are unable to repair your device, we may still be able to help get your device fixed and may even be able to get your data recovered. We have teamed up with a specialist “Micro-Soldering Board Level Repair Company” here in Bristol specifically to ensure we get your device fixed in almost all cases.

12 Month Warranty

We will not use cheap parts and will certainly not do a botch job either. You can rely on us. If you have any problems after the repair has been completed, just give us a call.

Huawei Mate 20 Pro Known Issues

Green tint along the curved edges after a few weeks

Here we have the display fault owners named Gluegate. The Mate 20 Pro’s OLED is bonded under curved glass, and a lighter, greenish band turns up down one or both edges and around the notch. It does not show on a black wallpaper. Put a grey on screen — a loading screen, the notification shade pulled down over a white page — at low brightness in a dark room, and it is obvious. Owners reported it appearing days into ownership and getting worse with use, which points at the bonding adhesive rather than the panel driver. Panels came from more than one supplier, so two identical handsets do not behave identically.

The battery is calibrated to its own logic board

Huawei pairs the cell to that individual mainboard. Not a model-level match — a calibration tying one battery to one board. Fit a replacement, and the evidence is that even service pack cells do not arrive calibrated the same way, so reported capacity and charging behaviour never settle properly afterwards. Why would anyone do this to a battery? What can you do. Practically, it means a battery job on a Mate 20 Pro will not behave as cleanly as the same job on a phone with no pairing, and the customer gets told that 100% upfront before the back comes off.

SuperCharge drops to slow charging and the computer stops seeing it

The phone still charges, but never at SuperCharge speed, and a computer no longer recognises it on the cable. Owners chased software first — cache partition cleared, full factory reset — and nothing changed. What does that tell us? The fast-charge handshake and the data lines both run through the USB-C port, so a port failing on those pins while still passing charge current produces exactly that pair of symptoms together, at the same time. Huawei’s own service centres replaced the port, and the handsets came back charging properly with the owner’s data intact.

Random shutdowns on a high-mileage handset with a healthy battery

Long-serving Mate 20 Pros are reported cutting out several times an hour — including units whose battery was already replaced and tests fine. So the battery is not the answer here. The cause raised by other owners is fatigue cracking in the solder under board components after years of heat cycling. We do not treat one forum reply as proven, but it is the right place to look once a known-good battery has ruled itself out. A phone that turns out to need board work costs a great deal more than one that needed a cell.

Stuck on the recovery screen after a system update

This is the one that ends devices. The phone reboots into Huawei’s eRecovery after an update and goes no further. Download-and-recover over Wi-Fi fails. HiSuite answers that the device is not supported for system recovery. Repeated factory resets change nothing, and the data goes with them. Worse: because it loops before it ever reaches the operating system, the battery does not charge properly, so the handset flattens itself while you work on it. If anything is going to be recovered off it, that happens early or not at all.
