No Fix No Fee?

We would love to be able to fix every device and would love to be able to give you your device back working as it should be. Some devices are just beyond repair or need to be taken to a Micro-Soldering Specialist. Our expertise has taken years to acquire, so we charge £20 for any device which we are not able to repair. This by no means covers our costs, as we sometimes spend in excess of an hour or two working through different options to get your device working again. In the event that you have called us out to your location, we will only charge you the call out fee plus £10. If we are unable to repair your device, we may still be able to help get your device fixed and may even be able to get your data recovered. We have teamed up with a specialist “Micro-Soldering Board Level Repair Company” here in Bristol specifically to ensure we get your device fixed in almost all cases.

iPad Pro 12.9 2015 1st Generation Known Issues

No touch after a screen replacement

On the first-generation 12.9″ iPad Pro, a screen that lights up and shows a picture but ignores your finger after a screen swap is often a board fault, not a bad screen. VCC Board Repairs says it’s super common on this model. He blames the battery being left connected while the new screen is plugged in, which blows a small touch filter on the logic board. So, fitting yet another screen won’t help. The fault was caused during the repair, and the fix is replacing that filter under a microscope.

On the NorthridgeFix bench, one of these came in with no touch after the owner had fitted a new screen and battery. A burn mark and some melting near the display connectors gave it away almost at once, and a continuity test confirmed a failed filter underneath. That’s one case. VCC Board Repairs adds that a failed filter can turn black, and that two filters on this board cause no touch when they go. Nearby parts can scorch too, but in his experience those don’t fail. Both iPads had working touch again once the filter was replaced.
