If We Come To You

We know you are busy, so we offer a service where we come to you. We will arrive in a Red DrFixit Van at your home or work or wherever you want. Our vans are fully fitted with all the necessary tools to get your device working in no time. Did I mention our call out charge starts from only £15 to come to you? I am sure you agree… that level of convenience makes perfect sense. To find out more, please visit our page If We Come To You.

No Fix No Fee?

We would love to be able to fix every device and would love to be able to give you your device back working as it should be. Some devices are just beyond repair or need to be taken to a Micro-Soldering Specialist. Our expertise has taken years to acquire, so we charge £20 for any device which we are not able to repair. This by no means covers our costs, as we sometimes spend in excess of an hour or two working through different options to get your device working again. In the event that you have called us out to your location, we will only charge you the call out fee plus £10. If we are unable to repair your device, we may still be able to help get your device fixed and may even be able to get your data recovered. We have teamed up with a specialist “Micro-Soldering Board Level Repair Company” here in Bristol specifically to ensure we get your device fixed in almost all cases.

12 Month Warranty

We will not use cheap parts and will certainly not do a botch job either. You can rely on us. If you have any problems after the repair has been completed, just give us a call.

iPad Pro 12.9 2017 2nd Generation Known Issues

No power, and the charger tells the story

Three of the 12.9″ second gen cases in our research were dead tablets, and all three come from one repair shop, Northridge Fix, so treat this as one shop’s experience. Their first test is a USB meter on the Lightning cable. A healthy 2nd gen pulls roughly 0.95 to 0.98 amps. A reading stuck around 0.47 to 0.6 amps, the technician says, almost always means a short on the logic board. In one case the meter showed 0.6 amps with the battery unplugged, when it should read zero.

Shorted capacitors next to a coil

In one 12.9″ 2nd gen, the thermal camera showed several warm areas. The technician’s point, from working on this board regularly: the large hot area is usually not the culprit, the small one is. A meter confirmed a dead short of about 0.1 ohms at a cluster of tiny bypass capacitors. One cracked in half the moment it was touched, yet the short stayed. Only when a neighbouring capacitor came off did it clear. He says these capacitors are not needed for the tablet to run, so the board works without them.

A hot chip with no short to measure

Two other dead 12.9″ 2nd gens drew too much current but showed no short around the power management chip. In the first, the charging port flex had already been replaced elsewhere; reworking it fixed a failed port-chip test, but the iPad still would not start. The thermal camera picked out one small chip running hot. A new chip brought charging up to 2.9 amps and the battery logo appeared. In the second, a glued-down chip ran hot, but removing it changed nothing and the video ends before a fix. One case solved, one left open.
