Some devices are just beyond repair or need to be taken to a Micro-Soldering Specialist. Our expertise has taken years to acquire, so we charge £20 for any device which we are not able to repair. This by no means covers our costs, as we sometimes spend in excess of an hour or two working through different options to get your device working again. In the event that you have called us out to your location, we will only charge you the call out fee plus £10. If we are unable to repair your device, we may still be able to help get your device fixed and may even be able to get your data recovered. We have teamed up with a specialist “Micro-Soldering Board Level Repair Company” here in Bristol specifically to ensure we get your device fixed in almost all cases.

iPhone 13 Pro Known Issues

A hidden 5G flex soldered under the logic board

So, this one’s a trap for anyone who’s had the board out. Underneath the 13 Pro’s logic board there’s a 5G flex cable, and unlike most of what’s in there, it doesn’t clip on with a connector. It’s soldered straight to the underside of the board. Lift the board without knowing it’s there and the flex tears. But that isn’t the end of the phone. The fix is proper microsoldering: flux and fresh solder on the old pads, wick them clean, then hot-air a new pre-balled flex into place. It doesn’t always take on the first pass, so a gentle wiggle test tells you whether it’s actually soldered or just sitting there. Then the cable gets creased to follow the housing, plugged into the antenna connection on the side, and screwed down.

The camera swaps to the ultra-wide on its own

Get close to something with the 13 Pro’s main camera and the phone decides, all by itself, that you’d rather be on the ultra-wide for a macro shot. You see it as a weird ghosting transition in the viewfinder, and if you wanted to stay on the main lens, too bad. Reviewers picked up on it widely when the phone launched. No big surprise, then, that Apple acknowledged it and added a toggle in the Camera settings, so the switch only happens when you ask for it. So if your 13 Pro seems to be changing lenses by itself, check that setting before booking a camera repair. That’s the phone doing what it was designed to do, not a failed module.

ProRes files meet a USB 2-speed Lightning port

The 13 Pro can shoot Apple’s ProRes video, and the files are huge: roughly 6GB for every minute of 4K. On the 128GB model you don’t even get 4K ProRes. It’s capped at 1080p, so the bigger storage options are the ones built for it. But the real headache is getting the footage off. The 13 Pro still has a Lightning port, which runs at essentially USB 2 speeds, so copying a few long clips over a cable is painfully slow. Make a cup of tea. Possibly two. That’s how the port was built, not a fault, and a slow transfer on its own is no reason to replace a charge port.
