Some devices are just beyond repair or need to be taken to a Micro-Soldering Specialist. Our expertise has taken years to acquire, so we charge £20 for any device which we are not able to repair. This by no means covers our costs, as we sometimes spend in excess of an hour or two working through different options to get your device working again. In the event that you have called us out to your location, we will only charge you the call out fee plus £10. If we are unable to repair your device, we may still be able to help get your device fixed and may even be able to get your data recovered. We have teamed up with a specialist “Micro-Soldering Board Level Repair Company” here in Bristol specifically to ensure we get your device fixed in almost all cases.

iPhone 16 Pro Max Known Issues

No picture after a power surge while charging

The board repairer behind iPad Rehab says they have seen many 16 Pro Max boards with damage to the display circuit. In the case she filmed, the phone was charging during a thunderstorm and lost its picture. It still rang, showed up in Find My and stayed paired to an Apple Watch. The Apple Store fitted a new screen, saw no change and called it a motherboard fault. On the bench it charged at about two amps and booted normally, but ran hot and pulled around four amps. So, the screen was fine and the fault was on the board.

Shutting off part-way through a video

Michael Bordenaro went through three 16 Pro Max units and says all three had the same fault. While he filmed on the ultra-wide camera in 4K, the phone would switch itself off without warning, sometimes after a minute and sometimes after 15. He says it was not overheating when this happened. Setting the third phone up from scratch, with no backup, did not help, and Apple Store staff could not find a cause. His wife’s 16 Pro Max did not have the problem, so this is one owner’s experience. He calls it the worst Pro Max since the 12 Pro Max; that is his opinion.

Running hot under heavy load

Two owners mention heat. Nick Ackerman, after close to a year with his 16 Pro Max, found it got uncomfortably warm when he played graphics-heavy games while it was charging. He says it runs cooler than his 15 Pro Max did, and only that mix of heavy gaming and charging brought it on. Michael Bordenaro had his third unit shut down from overheating while he filmed in hot sun. He says his 15 Pro Max recorded a 30-minute video the same day without overheating. Both are single-owner reports.
