If We Come To You

We know you are busy, so we offer a service where we come to you. We will arrive in a Red DrFixit Van at your home or work or wherever you want. Our vans are fully fitted with all the necessary tools to get your device working in no time. Did I mention our call out charge starts from only £15 to come to you? I am sure you agree… that level of convenience makes perfect sense. To find out more, please visit our page If We Come To You.

No Fix No Fee?

We would love to be able to fix every device and would love to be able to give you your device back working as it should be. Some devices are just beyond repair or need to be taken to a Micro-Soldering Specialist. Our expertise has taken years to acquire, so we charge £20 for any device which we are not able to repair. This by no means covers our costs, as we sometimes spend in excess of an hour or two working through different options to get your device working again. In the event that you have called us out to your location, we will only charge you the call out fee plus £10. If we are unable to repair your device, we may still be able to help get your device fixed and may even be able to get your data recovered. We have teamed up with a specialist “Micro-Soldering Board Level Repair Company” here in Bristol specifically to ensure we get your device fixed in almost all cases.

12 Month Warranty

We will not use cheap parts and will certainly not do a botch job either. You can rely on us. If you have any problems after the repair has been completed, just give us a call.

iPhone 7 Plus Known Issues

Speaker button greyed out on calls

You’re on a call and the speaker button is grey. Voice memos won’t record or play back. Siri doesn’t hear you. One board repairer calls this a very common iPhone 7 Plus fault and puts it down to the audio chip on the logic board. A second repair channel took in a 7 Plus with the same greyed-out speaker symptom and fixed it at that same sound chip. So this is a board-level job. The chip comes off the board with hot air and goes back on under a microscope. It isn’t a part you can swap from the outside.

Why audio chip repairs need extra wires

Lifting the audio chip off isn’t the whole repair. Before it goes back on, repairers add tiny jumper wires from its pads to traces and parts on the board around it. One adds a set of links between the chip’s pads and the board around it, then seals the wires under UV-cured mask. He says an older method with fewer links brought too many phones back under warranty. Another specialist connects all eight surface traces in reach of the chip, ground included. Leave links out, he says, and the microphone or Lightning headphones can stop working. If your 7 Plus has had this repair before and the fault is back, that’s worth knowing.

Dead after a drop: short on the main power line

This one comes from a single data recovery case. A 7 Plus stopped turning on after being dropped. The owner had already tried a new screen and a new battery. Neither helped. On the bench, the board pulled high current the moment power was connected, and the meter beeped straight through from the main power line to ground. That’s a dead short. There was no sign of water damage under the shields. The repairer said it was one of the first 7 Plus boards she’d seen with this short, so treat it as one case, not a pattern.

No power, and the charger cuts out

Another single bench case. A 7 Plus came in with no power, and when the shop tried to charge it, their bench charger shut off. That pointed to a short. Powered directly, the board drew a steady 0.6 amps and got hot to the touch. The heat showed up at the corner of the audio chip, but that was misleading. Injecting voltage and misting the board with rosin flux showed the real culprit: one capacitor elsewhere on the left side of the board. Removing it cleared the short. The phone still didn’t start normally afterwards, so there was more wrong with that board.
