If We Come To You

We know you are busy, so we offer a service where we come to you. We will arrive in a Red DrFixit Van at your home or work or wherever you want. Our vans are fully fitted with all the necessary tools to get your device working in no time. Did I mention our call out charge starts from only £15 to come to you? I am sure you agree… that level of convenience makes perfect sense. To find out more, please visit our page If We Come To You.

No Fix No Fee?

We would love to be able to fix every device and would love to be able to give you your device back working as it should be. Some devices are just beyond repair or need to be taken to a Micro-Soldering Specialist. Our expertise has taken years to acquire, so we charge £20 for any device which we are not able to repair. This by no means covers our costs, as we sometimes spend in excess of an hour or two working through different options to get your device working again. In the event that you have called us out to your location, we will only charge you the call out fee plus £10. If we are unable to repair your device, we may still be able to help get your device fixed and may even be able to get your data recovered. We have teamed up with a specialist “Micro-Soldering Board Level Repair Company” here in Bristol specifically to ensure we get your device fixed in almost all cases.

12 Month Warranty

We will not use cheap parts and will certainly not do a botch job either. You can rely on us. If you have any problems after the repair has been completed, just give us a call.

iPhone SE 2nd Generation 2020 Known Issues

Restarts every three minutes, like clockwork

This is the SE 2020’s signature fault, and it’s a strange one. The phone boots and works normally, then restarts about three minutes later. And again three minutes after that. Pull the panic log and it complains about a missing sensor called “mic1” and says thermalmonitord is unhealthy. So a microphone line is taking the whole phone down. Kind of wild. There are two routes to it. The one tied to this model is a logic board fault, well known among board repairers: the line carrying that signal to the processor breaks somewhere under the SIM tray. No part swap fixes that. It’s a microsoldering job, running a jumper wire around the break. The other route is a drop. The Lightning charging port assembly carries the microphone, so a knock that damages it produces exactly the same restart loop. Replace the assembly (the same part the iPhone 8 uses) and the loop stops. Same symptom, but the two jobs are nowhere near the same size. So get it diagnosed before anyone orders parts.

Touch that comes and goes

Now the less obvious one. One board repairer took in an SE 2020 for touch failure, and it was the annoying kind: touch worked, then it didn’t, then it did again. There was nothing obviously wrong with it. What he eventually found wasn’t the screen at all. Some tiny components near the front camera connector on the logic board had come loose, parts involved in data communication. He replaced them on the board and gave the video a blunt title: the SE 2020 “has Touch Disease”. That’s one repairer’s case, not a recall-level pattern. But it’s a useful warning. If your touch is intermittent rather than dead, a new screen might not be the answer, and it’s worth having the board checked first.
