No Fix No Fee?

We would love to be able to fix every device and would love to be able to give you your device back working as it should be. Some devices are just beyond repair or need to be taken to a Micro-Soldering Specialist. Our expertise has taken years to acquire, so we charge £20 for any device which we are not able to repair. This by no means covers our costs, as we sometimes spend in excess of an hour or two working through different options to get your device working again. In the event that you have called us out to your location, we will only charge you the call out fee plus £10. If we are unable to repair your device, we may still be able to help get your device fixed and may even be able to get your data recovered. We have teamed up with a specialist “Micro-Soldering Board Level Repair Company” here in Bristol specifically to ensure we get your device fixed in almost all cases.

Too Busy to Come to Us?

We know you are busy, so we offer a service where we come to you. We will arrive in a Red DrFixit Van at your home or work or wherever you want. Our vans are fully fitted with all the necessary tools to get your device working in no time. Did I mention our call out charge starts from only £15 to come to you? I am sure you agree… that level of convenience makes perfect sense. To find out more, please visit our page If We Come To You.

12 Month Warranty

We will not use cheap parts and will certainly not do a botch job either. You can rely on us. If you have any problems after the repair has been completed, just give us a call.

iPhone X Known Issues

Touch stops responding

The picture is fine, but the screen does not react to your finger. Jessa at iPad Rehab calls no touch one of the really common iPhone X faults. In the classic version, the phone flexes in a pocket, the logic board bends, and the stacked board splits apart, breaking connections between its layers. Her own bench case was different: a phone used only as a desk tester, never carried, with a known-good screen, battery and charging port fitted, still had no touch. A touch signal line was shorted inside the processor. Same symptom, different cause, so the board has to be measured first.

Front camera videos have no sound

Videos from the rear camera record sound normally. Videos from the front camera play back with noise and no voice. Northridge Fix had one of these on the bench. The microphone used for front camera video sits on the flex cable at the top of the phone, the same cable that carries the earpiece and the light sensor. They moved a microphone across from a donor cable and the fault stayed, so the root cause was not found on that phone. **Repair note:** another shop had already swapped the whole cable, and Face ID stopped working as a result.

Screen replacement and True Tone

The iPhone X uses an OLED panel. When the screen is replaced, the earpiece speaker, microphone and small sensors are moved over from the old screen to the new one, and those ribbons are very fragile. Face ID hardware is not part of the display, so a screen swap on its own should not affect it. Lines, a grey picture or nothing at all after fitting can simply mean a connector is not seated. **Repair note:** True Tone needs the original screen’s serial data copied to the new one with a programmer, and this only works with an original or high-grade soft OLED panel.

Dead, with a heavy current draw

One iPhone X reached STS Telecom completely dead, after its owner had already replaced the battery and charging port. On a bench power supply it jumped straight to about one amp the instant the button was pressed. A healthy board takes a small draw, pauses, then climbs as it boots. With everything unplugged the short was still there, so the fault was on the logic board. Jason points to the row of capacitors beside the storage chip as a common failure point, usually after liquid damage, possibly after impact. This board had a nicked capacitor and pry marks there. The video ends before the short is confirmed.
