If We Come To You

We know you are busy, so we offer a service where we come to you. We will arrive in a Red DrFixit Van at your home or work or wherever you want. Our vans are fully fitted with all the necessary tools to get your device working in no time. Did I mention our call out charge starts from only £15 to come to you? I am sure you agree… that level of convenience makes perfect sense. To find out more, please visit our page If We Come To You.

No Fix No Fee?

We would love to be able to fix every device and would love to be able to give you your device back working as it should be. Some devices are just beyond repair or need to be taken to a Micro-Soldering Specialist. Our expertise has taken years to acquire, so we charge £20 for any device which we are not able to repair. This by no means covers our costs, as we sometimes spend in excess of an hour or two working through different options to get your device working again. In the event that you have called us out to your location, we will only charge you the call out fee plus £10. If we are unable to repair your device, we may still be able to help get your device fixed and may even be able to get your data recovered. We have teamed up with a specialist “Micro-Soldering Board Level Repair Company” here in Bristol specifically to ensure we get your device fixed in almost all cases.

12 Month Warranty

We will not use cheap parts and will certainly not do a botch job either. You can rely on us. If you have any problems after the repair has been completed, just give us a call.

Samsung S20 Known Issues

Gets hot doing easy stuff (Exynos 990)

UK S20s run Samsung’s own Exynos 990 chip, and that’s where most of the complaints start. Owners report it getting warm after five minutes of Facebook, and properly hot after about five minutes of camera use, whether that’s photos or video. One owner had a Samsung service centre point a thermal scanner at theirs: 41.8°C during light use. Samsung called that normal. Kind of wild for a flagship. Wireless charging adds heat too, even with fast wireless charging switched off. And the owner who started the thread came back later to say two software updates hadn’t made a dent in it.

120Hz quietly drops to 60Hz

Get an Exynos S20 past roughly 40°C and the screen drops from 120Hz to 60Hz on its own, then switches back once the phone cools. That’s thermal throttling, not a broken display. Several owners in the same Exynos S20 thread saw it, and one noticed it kicking in sooner with the battery down around 30-35%. So if scrolling suddenly feels choppier after a long camera session, the panel’s fine. The chip is just cooking.

Battery drain, worse on weak signal

Numbers first. One Exynos S20 owner, two weeks in, watched it lose 1% every three minutes with the screen on, on Wi-Fi, with location, Bluetooth and always-on display all switched off. That’s about three hours of screen time. Another, two months in, got 20-24 hours a charge at home on good 4G and Wi-Fi. At work, in poor coverage? 5-8% gone just sitting on standby, and weaker signal than their previous phone. Same phone, different postcode. On an older, secondhand S20 that runs hot and goes from 100% to 5% in four hours, get the battery’s real capacity tested before blaming the chip alone.

Samsung S20 Specifications

The Samsung S20 has a 6.2-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen (1440 x 3200) that can run at 120Hz, though 120Hz works at Full HD resolution, with 60Hz at the full QHD setting. UK and European phones run Samsung’s Exynos 990, while the US version used Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865. It was sold as a 4G model (SM-G980F) and a 5G model (SM-G981B), with 128GB of storage, 8GB or 12GB of RAM depending on version, and a microSD slot that shares the SIM tray.

On the back are a 12MP main camera and a 64MP telephoto, both with optical stabilisation, plus a 12MP ultra-wide, and there’s a 10MP selfie camera. The battery is 4000mAh, with 25W wired, 15W wireless and 4.5W reverse wireless charging. It’s Gorilla Glass 6 front and back on an aluminium frame, rated IP68, with an ultrasonic fingerprint reader under the screen.
