If We Come To You

We know you are busy, so we offer a service where we come to you. We will arrive in a Red DrFixit Van at your home or work or wherever you want. Our vans are fully fitted with all the necessary tools to get your device working in no time. Did I mention our call out charge starts from only £15 to come to you? I am sure you agree… that level of convenience makes perfect sense. To find out more, please visit our page If We Come To You.

No Fix No Fee?

We would love to be able to fix every device and would love to be able to give you your device back working as it should be. Some devices are just beyond repair or need to be taken to a Micro-Soldering Specialist. Our expertise has taken years to acquire, so we charge £20 for any device which we are not able to repair. This by no means covers our costs, as we sometimes spend in excess of an hour or two working through different options to get your device working again. In the event that you have called us out to your location, we will only charge you the call out fee plus £10. If we are unable to repair your device, we may still be able to help get your device fixed and may even be able to get your data recovered. We have teamed up with a specialist “Micro-Soldering Board Level Repair Company” here in Bristol specifically to ensure we get your device fixed in almost all cases.

12 Month Warranty

We will not use cheap parts and will certainly not do a botch job either. You can rely on us. If you have any problems after the repair has been completed, just give us a call.

Samsung S10 Plus Known Issues

Green tint and flickering on the screen

So, this one comes up in S10+ owner threads. The screen takes on a green shade and flickers, and some owners first notice it a few weeks after a system update. The update gets the blame. It isn’t the fix, though. Two S10+ owners asked whether a custom ROM would clear it, and the answer was no. What was suggested instead was a new screen or re-bonding the display’s flex cable. That points at the panel and its connection, not the software. Neither owner said which chipset version they had.

Battery life on the UK Exynos version

UK S10+ phones run Samsung’s own Exynos 9820 chip. One reviewer who used both versions for a long time measured roughly a fifth less battery life on the Exynos phone than on the Snapdragon version sold elsewhere. Exynos owners on XDA see it overnight too, losing 5 to 7% while the phone sits idle. Early on, a Samsung bug stopped the phone deep-sleeping after a VoIP call. A firmware update fixed that one.

The charging port is part of the mainboard

Here’s a design choice worth knowing before a charging fault. On the S10+, the USB-C port is soldered straight onto the one main board. There’s no separate charging board to swap. The S10 5G has one. The S10+ doesn’t. So, a port that’s physically broken means work on the board itself, not a clip-in part, and that’s a bigger job. (Seen on a dual-SIM model; the chipset wasn’t stated.)

A new screen means going in through the back

Cracked glass can’t be replaced on its own here. The glass and OLED come as one panel. And you can’t reach it from the front. So, the back glass comes off first, and Samsung glues it down hard for water resistance. Then the wireless-charging and speaker assembly, sixteen screws and the whole mainboard come out before the display can be heated and prised free. In one teardown, the old panel’s flex cable didn’t survive removal. Fresh adhesive goes on both sides. After that, nobody can promise full water resistance.
