If We Come To You

We know you are busy, so we offer a service where we come to you. We will arrive in a Red DrFixit Van at your home or work or wherever you want. Our vans are fully fitted with all the necessary tools to get your device working in no time. Did I mention our call out charge starts from only £15 to come to you? I am sure you agree… that level of convenience makes perfect sense. To find out more, please visit our page If We Come To You.

No Fix No Fee?

We would love to be able to fix every device and would love to be able to give you your device back working as it should be. Some devices are just beyond repair or need to be taken to a Micro-Soldering Specialist. Our expertise has taken years to acquire, so we charge £20 for any device which we are not able to repair. This by no means covers our costs, as we sometimes spend in excess of an hour or two working through different options to get your device working again. In the event that you have called us out to your location, we will only charge you the call out fee plus £10. If we are unable to repair your device, we may still be able to help get your device fixed and may even be able to get your data recovered. We have teamed up with a specialist “Micro-Soldering Board Level Repair Company” here in Bristol specifically to ensure we get your device fixed in almost all cases.

12 Month Warranty

We will not use cheap parts and will certainly not do a botch job either. You can rely on us. If you have any problems after the repair has been completed, just give us a call.

Samsung S20 FE Known Issues

Ghost touches with several fingers on the screen

This is the S20 FE’s best-known flaw. Put two or more fingers down close together and the screen registers touches that aren’t there: random zooms, extra key presses, and in one case the phone taking screenshots by itself. It was reported on both the 5G (Snapdragon) and 4G (Exynos) versions. So, Samsung pushed several firmware updates at it, and some owners say a later one cleared it completely. But others still found ghost touches in a touch-test app after updating. The same software behaved differently from one phone to the next, so many owners concluded the touch panels varied between units.

Scrolling that stops responding

This is a separate symptom from the ghost touches. The screen ignores a swipe or reads it as a tap, most often near the bottom of the display and sometimes after the phone has sat unused for a while. One owner found it came and went, and said the update that removed their ghost-touch patterns didn’t fix it. A 4G Snapdragon owner, whose phone had never been dropped and was all original, reported the same occasional failure. Changing the screen protector made no difference.

Colour tint at an angle

Tilt the phone and many S20 FE screens show a red or green tint, sometimes as bands that move with the phone. Some owners see it straight on against pale backgrounds. XDA’s own review found more colour shift at angles than on the S20+. One owner said every display unit they checked in a shop had the bands. So, it’s a trait of the panel, not damage.

The cable joining the two boards

The S20 FE links the top and bottom of the phone with a long cable that plugs into a 78-pin connector. A reviewer testing the 5G version said that when this cable or its connector goes bad, it can cause screen, touch and charging problems. He rated it less failure-prone than the similar cable in Samsung’s A-series phones, with repeated drops making failure more likely. If touch and charging die together, check this cable first.

Heat on the Exynos 4G version

The 4G model runs Samsung’s Exynos 990 chip, and owners complained it ran warm and drained battery fast. One owner’s unit dropped from 100% to 99% within five minutes, untouched on a table. After a software reinstall at a Samsung service centre and restricting background apps, it ran noticeably cooler. A reviewer found the 5G version also got warm while gaming, but never overheated. If yours runs hot, that owner’s checklist is worth trying: put apps you don’t need notifications from to sleep, switch off Always On Display, turn the screen refresh rate down to standard, and use power saving mode. A weak signal makes the phone work harder too, so it will run warmer where coverage is poor.
