No Fix No Fee?

We would love to be able to fix every device and would love to be able to give you your device back working as it should be. Some devices are just beyond repair or need to be taken to a Micro-Soldering Specialist. Our expertise has taken years to acquire, so we charge £20 for any device which we are not able to repair. This by no means covers our costs, as we sometimes spend in excess of an hour or two working through different options to get your device working again. In the event that you have called us out to your location, we will only charge you the call out fee plus £10. If we are unable to repair your device, we may still be able to help get your device fixed and may even be able to get your data recovered. We have teamed up with a specialist “Micro-Soldering Board Level Repair Company” here in Bristol specifically to ensure we get your device fixed in almost all cases.

12 Month Warranty

We will not use cheap parts and will certainly not do a botch job either. You can rely on us. If you have any problems after the repair has been completed, just give us a call.

Samsung S9+ Plus Known Issues

Screen goes black, but the phone is still running

So, this one’s odd. An owner of a UK-spec S9+ (the Exynos SM-G965F, dual-SIM) had the display go black with no warning. The phone hadn’t been dropped, and it hadn’t been rooted or modified. Everything else kept working. Sounds played, and the LED still blinked blue, red on charge and green when full. Touch, the fingerprint reader and all three cameras checked out. Then they plugged in a USB-C to HDMI adapter and got a picture on a monitor. That’s the useful bit: the board is clearly drawing graphics, so the fault sits in the panel or its flex cable. Recovery and download mode were black too. And if download mode shows nothing, no reset is going to fix it. It’s a hardware job. Because the phone still showed up on a PC, their data could come off first, and that’s worth doing before any screen goes in.

Fast charging stops and won’t come back

An Exynos S9+ owner running untouched stock software lost fast charging overnight. They used the same chargers and cables that had fast-charged it the day before. They rebooted, tried safe mode and flicked the fast-charging switch in the battery settings off and on. Nothing changed. Another poster in the same thread said theirs had been stuck on slow charging for months. Cleaning out the USB-C port cleared a moisture message and got it charging again, but still not fast. So, clean the port first. It costs nothing. It isn’t the whole answer, though. If a clean port and a known-good charger still won’t fast charge, the port itself and the charging circuit behind it are next to test. The thread never confirmed an S9+ fix.

Dead, even with a charged battery

Two G965F owners on XDA reported an S9+ that switched off and stayed off. One died mid-use and didn’t respond to a forced restart or the download-mode button combination. The other bought a used one that had been drained flat. They opened it and measured the battery at about 1V, then bench-charged it back to around 4V. The phone still ignored the power button while drawing roughly 100mA from the cable. So it wasn’t the battery. Neither thread was resolved. A US repair channel had an S9+ in with the same no-power complaint. Their thermal camera found one shorted chip on the board, and a new chip brought it back, charging on cable and wireless. That unit was American, so it may be the Snapdragon version rather than the UK’s Exynos one. The method carries over. The exact chip might not.

Samsung S9+ Plus Specifications

The Samsung S9+ has a 6.2-inch Super AMOLED screen (1440 x 2960). UK and European phones (SM-G965F) run Samsung’s Exynos 9810, while the US and China versions used Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845. It came with 64GB, 128GB or 256GB of storage and 4GB or 6GB of RAM, and the dual-SIM model takes a microSD card in the SIM tray.

Unlike the smaller S9, it has two rear cameras: a 12MP main with a variable f/1.5 to f/2.4 aperture and a 12MP 2x telephoto, both with optical stabilisation. The 8MP selfie camera sits beside a dedicated iris scanner. The battery is 3500mAh, with 15W wired charging and wireless charging. It’s Gorilla Glass 5 front and back on an aluminium frame, rated IP68, with a 3.5mm headphone jack and a fingerprint reader on the back.
