If We Come To You

We know you are busy, so we offer a service where we come to you. We will arrive in a Red DrFixit Van at your home or work or wherever you want. Our vans are fully fitted with all the necessary tools to get your device working in no time. Did I mention our call out charge starts from only £15 to come to you? I am sure you agree… that level of convenience makes perfect sense. To find out more, please visit our page If We Come To You.

No Fix No Fee?

We would love to be able to fix every device and would love to be able to give you your device back working as it should be. Some devices are just beyond repair or need to be taken to a Micro-Soldering Specialist. Our expertise has taken years to acquire, so we charge £20 for any device which we are not able to repair. This by no means covers our costs, as we sometimes spend in excess of an hour or two working through different options to get your device working again. In the event that you have called us out to your location, we will only charge you the call out fee plus £10. If we are unable to repair your device, we may still be able to help get your device fixed and may even be able to get your data recovered. We have teamed up with a specialist “Micro-Soldering Board Level Repair Company” here in Bristol specifically to ensure we get your device fixed in almost all cases.

12 Month Warranty

We will not use cheap parts and will certainly not do a botch job either. You can rely on us. If you have any problems after the repair has been completed, just give us a call.

Sony Xperia Z1 Compact Known Issues

Camera hunts for focus and never settles

Here we have a Z1 Compact that came in because the camera will not hold focus. High-contrast scenes are where it shows itself — a bright screen in a dark room — and the lens racks in and out on near subjects and far ones alike, stills as well as video. The owner had already tried the stock camera, CM and Slim. Three separate apps, identical behaviour. That eliminates the software and puts the fault on the module or on whatever is driving the focus.

Phantom touches in one area, then that area stops responding

Owners describe weeks of ghost inputs in one part of the panel, no drop and no cracked glass to explain them, and then that same area goes fully unresponsive. Here is the part that catches shops out. Fitting a new screen frequently does not fix it. One owner had the panel replaced by Sony and still had a display reacting to fingers that were not touching it. A brand-new panel behaving exactly like the old one is telling you the fault is not in the panel.

Phone shuts itself off from a healthy-looking charge

Fine one minute, dead the next. The reported charge falls from something like 60% to nothing in moments and the phone switches itself off, several times a day. Clearing the cache, removing battery-saver apps, running a calibration app — all of it gets suggested, and owners report back that none of it changed anything. So it is not a reporting glitch you can recalibrate away. The cell is no longer holding what the gauge believes it holds, and substitution is what resolves it.

No charge over the USB port while the magnetic contacts still work

No charging indicator, no LED, and in some cases a percentage that sits still and refuses to climb. The Z1 Compact has two ways in, the micro USB port and the magnetic charging contacts, and they are separate paths. That is your test. Charges on the magnetic contacts but not through the lead? Then the port or its board-side connections are the problem, not the battery. One owner got charging back temporarily by warming the phone with a hairdryer — heat expands a marginal joint, and a cooled joint opens again.

Mobile data drops out unless the radio is forced onto one mode

One owner’s connection failed roughly every fifth attempt, from the day the phone was new. APN correct. Reflashed with Xperia Companion. Ran a custom ROM, went back to stock. The fault outlived every bit of that. Forcing the preferred network type to WCDMA only made it disappear — and cost him any connection at all in EDGE-only areas. When a fault survives a full reflash and a ROM change, you are not looking at software. You are looking at the radio side.
