Stolen / Locked Devices
The secondhand mobile phone market is saturated with stolen or locked devices. Generally speaking a locked device is usually a stolen device, the reason I say this is if it was your device, you would be able to unlock it. If you approach me looking to sell your device, the first thing I am going to do is to check if the IMEI number is registered as locked to iCloud or stolen. If this is the case, unless you can unlock it, the device is just a fancy paper weight.
NB – Locked devices are not devices locked to a network like Orange or 3, they are devices locked to iCloud for example.
Carrier Locked Devices
If your device is locked or assigned to a specific carrier or mobile service provider, such as Orange, T-Mobile, 3 Mobile, it would be to your advantage to ask that company to unlock your device. Often when the mobile is end of contract the service provider will unlock the device for free for the account holder. If we need to unlock the device, it reduces the value of the device as we have to pay to have it unlocked.
No Password
No password will mean we will need to reset the device to factory settings, reloading new software. Not a big deal, just takes a little time.
Aesthetic Condition
Obviously if the iPhone / Samsung Smart Phone is in near new condition, buyers will pay more money for a device in great condition. If it is battered, chipped, scratched, it will mean that some external parts may need to be replaced to even make it sellable. The the cost of these parts and the cost of fitting these parts will impact on the value of the device. It really is worth keeping your device in a good quality cover.
