Wi-Fi and mobile signal both disappear at the same time

Two separate radios going down together is the tell. Owners on XDA describe an XZ3 that runs fine for hours, then drops Wi-Fi and the mobile network in the same moment and stays dead until something physical changes. Aeroplane mode and a restart bring it back for a while. One owner traced it to the gold-coloured contact pins around the edge of the mainboard — press the side of the phone near the SIM tray, or just above the LED indicator, and both signals cut out on cue. That’s a contact problem, not a coverage problem.

Every reflash and factory reset leaves the fault exactly where it was

Before anyone charges you for software work, know how far down that road other owners have already driven. One ran the entire list on a signal-dead XZ3: factory reset, stock firmware, several custom ROMs, generic system images, both of the phone’s system slots. Same fault every time. The XZ3 is an A/B device, so it carries two complete copies of the system — handy for updates, and a very efficient way to lose both good copies at once if you flash carelessly. None of it restores a connection a contact isn’t making.

Random restarts and freezing that take the SIM with them

Different thread, same family of symptoms: the phone locks up, restarts itself, and comes back with no data and sometimes no SIM at all. The community fix is rolling Android System WebView back to its factory version through the Play Store — a browser engine nearly every app leans on, running here on a Sony build that stopped receiving updates a long time ago. It works for some owners and not others. The ones it doesn’t help tend to be the ones whose SIM contacts are the real problem, which brings us back to pressure.

The SIM is detected, then it isn’t

Here’s the unglamorous fix that keeps working. One owner put the restart-and-lost-network cycle down to a weak connection between the SIM card and the contacts it sits against, and reported the phone settling down over the following weeks once that was corrected. Another thread has an owner shimming contact points with thin tape so the board sits tighter against its casing. Neither is elegant. Both point at the same thing: a phone whose radios depend on parts pressing against each other hard enough, and staying that way.

Charges, reaches flashmode and fastboot, but never boots

A bricked XZ3 usually still shows signs of life. It charges, it drops into flashmode, it drops into fastboot — and then stops short of the home screen. Worth knowing before writing one off, because a phone that reaches fastboot still talks to a computer, so a stock reflash across both system slots is the first real test. Boots and holds, it was software. Loops, or lands back at the same screen, it’s the board — and owners have reported replacement XZ3 boards being hard to find, which pushes the job towards component-level repair rather than a swap.
