No Fix No Fee?

We would love to be able to fix every device and would love to be able to give you your device back working as it should be. Some devices are just beyond repair or need to be taken to a Micro-Soldering Specialist. Our expertise has taken years to acquire, so we charge £20 for any device which we are not able to repair. This by no means covers our costs, as we sometimes spend in excess of an hour or two working through different options to get your device working again. In the event that you have called us out to your location, we will only charge you the call out fee plus £10. If we are unable to repair your device, we may still be able to help get your device fixed and may even be able to get your data recovered. We have teamed up with a specialist “Micro-Soldering Board Level Repair Company” here in Bristol specifically to ensure we get your device fixed in almost all cases.

Too Busy to Come to Us?

We know you are busy, so we offer a service where we come to you. We will arrive in a Red DrFixit Van at your home or work or wherever you want. Our vans are fully fitted with all the necessary tools to get your device working in no time. Did I mention our call out charge starts from only £15 to come to you? I am sure you agree… that level of convenience makes perfect sense. To find out more, please visit our page If We Come To You.

12 Month Warranty

We will not use cheap parts and will certainly not do a botch job either. You can rely on us. If you have any problems after the repair has been completed, just give us a call.

iPhone XR Known Issues

Not charging: the charging chip on the logic board

This fault does not always look like a charging fault. One XR was sent to a board-repair specialist as a “no image” job, but it was not a screen problem. With a charger connected, the phone drew no charging current at all, and its start-up stalled part-way. The technician said the most common point of charging failure on the XR is a small Texas Instruments chip near the bottom of the board, and that is where he went. He also called the bottom shield over that area his least favourite part of the job, because the solder holding it takes so much heat to release.

Dead with no signs of life: a short on the board

One XR would not power on and would not charge. A different technician put the board into a known-good test housing with a working screen, battery and charging port. Still nothing, so the parts were ruled out and the fault was on the board. A charging-circuit test failed on two lines, and powering the board through the battery connector showed current flowing before the phone was even told to start. A healthy board should draw nothing at that point. A thermal camera showed heat around the battery connector. This is one phone on one bench, and the recording ends before the final cause is named.

Earpiece speaker cable and Face ID

On the XR, the cable that carries the earpiece speaker is tied to Face ID. Swap that cable for a new one and Face ID stops working. One owner pulled his earpiece speaker off the cable himself, bought a replacement part, and only then found out what it would cost him. What do you do? You keep the original cable.

Repair note: the shop that handled it scraped back the cable to expose bare copper, soldered the original speaker back on, and glued the cable in place. Face ID was kept because the original cable went back into the phone.
