No Fix No Fee?

We would love to be able to fix every device and would love to be able to give you your device back working as it should be. Some devices are just beyond repair or need to be taken to a Micro-Soldering Specialist. Our expertise has taken years to acquire, so we charge £20 for any device which we are not able to repair. This by no means covers our costs, as we sometimes spend in excess of an hour or two working through different options to get your device working again. In the event that you have called us out to your location, we will only charge you the call out fee plus £10. If we are unable to repair your device, we may still be able to help get your device fixed and may even be able to get your data recovered. We have teamed up with a specialist “Micro-Soldering Board Level Repair Company” here in Bristol specifically to ensure we get your device fixed in almost all cases.

Too Busy to Come to Us?

We know you are busy, so we offer a service where we come to you. We will arrive in a Red DrFixit Van at your home or work or wherever you want. Our vans are fully fitted with all the necessary tools to get your device working in no time. Did I mention our call out charge starts from only £15 to come to you? I am sure you agree… that level of convenience makes perfect sense. To find out more, please visit our page If We Come To You.

12 Month Warranty

We will not use cheap parts and will certainly not do a botch job either. You can rely on us. If you have any problems after the repair has been completed, just give us a call.

iPhone 14 Pro Known Issues

Genuine parts swapped between phones still get flagged

Hugh Jeffreys bought two brand-new iPhone 14 Pros and swapped the logic board from one into the other. Every part involved was genuine Apple. The phone still warned that it couldn’t verify its parts, and then it switched features off. Face ID stopped working. Battery health went blank. True Tone vanished, and so did auto-brightness. That last one is worse than it sounds: the always-on display can dim to zero, and with auto-brightness gone he found the screen could come back on at zero brightness, leaving him hunting for the slider blind. A full reset changed nothing. Oddly, the high refresh rate kept working.

A new front camera costs you portrait and cinematic modes

In the same test, the front camera wouldn’t load at all after the swap. A later software update brought part of it back, but portrait and cinematic modes stopped working, and trying to take a portrait photo froze the camera app. Jeffreys explains why: Apple uses some of the Face ID hardware for those two modes, so replacing the front camera takes more than Face ID with it. Then it got stranger. When he put the original parts back, the updated phone rejected its own factory-fitted camera. That’s one bench test on two phones, but it’s a direct one.

A stuck side button that looks like a dead board

One repairer bought a water-damaged 14 Pro online that kept booting into recovery mode by itself and then looping through restarts. That usually points to a board fault. It wasn’t. The side button was jammed in the pressed position, after the seller had pushed a paper clip in next to it. The clue was the button-press animation sitting permanently at the edge of the screen in the listing photos. Pressing the button firmly released it for long enough to boot. One phone, but a good reminder that a boot loop isn’t always the logic board.

**Repair note:** the button’s flex cable runs beneath both the logic board and the battery, so a small part means a near-full strip-down. The repairer also found the cable is part of the wireless charging coil, and his cheap replacement came without a coil, which added extra work.

Black spots on the zoom camera after liquid damage

On that phone, liquid had also reached the top rear camera, which turned out to be the telephoto. Its images showed four black dots, which the repairer calls a textbook sign of a damaged camera, and the fix was a camera replacement. Worth knowing if you’re checking one yourself: the standard Camera app quietly switches lenses when one is blocked, so a faulty camera can hide behind the others. He only pinned it down by using a separate testing app that shows each rear camera on its own.
