If We Come To You

We know you are busy, so we offer a service where we come to you. We will arrive in a Red DrFixit Van at your home or work or wherever you want. Our vans are fully fitted with all the necessary tools to get your device working in no time. Did I mention our call out charge starts from only £15 to come to you? I am sure you agree… that level of convenience makes perfect sense. To find out more, please visit our page If We Come To You.

No Fix No Fee?

We would love to be able to fix every device and would love to be able to give you your device back working as it should be. Some devices are just beyond repair or need to be taken to a Micro-Soldering Specialist. Our expertise has taken years to acquire, so we charge £20 for any device which we are not able to repair. This by no means covers our costs, as we sometimes spend in excess of an hour or two working through different options to get your device working again. In the event that you have called us out to your location, we will only charge you the call out fee plus £10. If we are unable to repair your device, we may still be able to help get your device fixed and may even be able to get your data recovered. We have teamed up with a specialist “Micro-Soldering Board Level Repair Company” here in Bristol specifically to ensure we get your device fixed in almost all cases.

12 Month Warranty

We will not use cheap parts and will certainly not do a botch job either. You can rely on us. If you have any problems after the repair has been completed, just give us a call.

iPad Pro 12.9 2020 4th Generation Known Issues

The frame flexes, and some arrive bent

The 2020 12.9″ is very thin, and the aluminium shell gives under surprisingly little force. One owner showed it bending with barely any pressure after a year of daily use, and put the fact it had stayed straight down to it living in a keyboard case the whole time. Another owner found their unit bent at the corners within a couple of days of delivery. As they relayed it, Apple said slight bends come from manufacturing and don’t affect function. That tablet went on to develop screen faults and was sent back for a replacement. So, a case that adds stiffness is worth having.

Screen blacking out or filling with grey lines

The same owner described the display going black, grey or multicoloured in normal use: watching a film, browsing, or working with it as a second screen. Locking and unlocking sometimes brought back a black screen with lines across it. Other times the picture came back by itself after a few seconds. They also noticed heat building near the Apple logo while charging, and along the Pencil magnet while watching video, but couldn’t say whether heat or the bend was behind it. It’s one unit, and the cause was never pinned down. It went back to Apple.

Phantom Pencil strokes when it’s warm

An owner who used a 12.9″ 4th gen daily for about five years found the screen registering strokes they never made. They’d be halfway through a word and a line would shoot across the page, or random marks would appear. It got worse when the iPad was warm. Some days they couldn’t finish a single word. The usual basic checks didn’t cure it. They were careful to say the cause could be the Pencil, the display, software, accessories or heat, and that not every unit does this. For anyone taking handwritten notes, it’s still a real problem.

No power, no charge: the USB-C controller chip

A repair shop had an A2069 in with no signs of life. The charging port flex had already been replaced and made no difference. On a USB-C meter it sat at 5 volts and zero amps. It wasn’t drawing anything. There was no short around the charging area and the board looked clean. So the shop replaced the CD3217B12, the chip that sits between the charging flex and the rest of the iPad. It’s packed in among tiny components, which makes it delicate work. After the swap the tablet pulled 12 volts at 1.7 amps and charged. A new port isn’t always the answer.
