If We Come To You

We know you are busy, so we offer a service where we come to you. We will arrive in a Red DrFixit Van at your home or work or wherever you want. Our vans are fully fitted with all the necessary tools to get your device working in no time. Did I mention our call out charge starts from only £15 to come to you? I am sure you agree… that level of convenience makes perfect sense. To find out more, please visit our page If We Come To You.

No Fix No Fee?

We would love to be able to fix every device and would love to be able to give you your device back working as it should be. Some devices are just beyond repair or need to be taken to a Micro-Soldering Specialist. Our expertise has taken years to acquire, so we charge £20 for any device which we are not able to repair. This by no means covers our costs, as we sometimes spend in excess of an hour or two working through different options to get your device working again. In the event that you have called us out to your location, we will only charge you the call out fee plus £10. If we are unable to repair your device, we may still be able to help get your device fixed and may even be able to get your data recovered. We have teamed up with a specialist “Micro-Soldering Board Level Repair Company” here in Bristol specifically to ensure we get your device fixed in almost all cases.

12 Month Warranty

We will not use cheap parts and will certainly not do a botch job either. You can rely on us. If you have any problems after the repair has been completed, just give us a call.

iPhone 7 Known Issues

Won’t charge and draws nothing from the charger

Jason at STS Telecom calls this a classic iPhone 7 fault. The phone takes zero current from a charger. Put it on a bench power supply through the battery connector and press the power button, and the current jumps straight to about 200 milliamps. A healthy board starts near 80, pauses, then climbs as it boots. He says that jump almost always means a failed Tristar chip. Some of these phones still boot and some don’t, but neither will do anything through the charging port. He has seen it on the 7 and 7 Plus, and on older models too.

**Repair note:** He replaced the Tristar chip, working it out from under its metal bracket without cutting the bracket.

Bent frame and board damage after one drop

Louis Rossmann showed an iPhone 7 that came in for data recovery after a single drop from normal height. The aluminium case was bent, the SIM tray was bent with it, and the logic board inside was visibly crooked. Under the microscope, a chip he believed was the power management IC had cracked into four pieces, and he agreed with a viewer that the audio chip had suffered too. He blames the thin aluminium casing and says people bring in phones with this damage every day. That’s one phone on camera plus his word that it’s common.

Black screen while the phone is still running

Northridge Fix had an iPhone 7 with no picture at all. The home button still responded and vibrated, so the phone was on. A new screen and a new battery made no difference. The display power pin at the connector didn’t show a short, but on the back of the board a small capacitor on the PP5V7 display line was visibly eaten away at one end. He also spotted a red liquid-contact marking, so liquid was a likely cause. One phone, one bench.

**Repair note:** He swapped in a matching capacitor from a donor iPhone 7 board and the display came back.

Home button and Touch ID are tied to the board

Hugh Jeffreys points out that the iPhone 7 home button isn’t a mechanical button. It senses pressure, it’s glued in, and it’s paired to that phone’s logic board. Damage it during a screen swap and you lose Touch ID and the home button function with it. So the original button has to be moved carefully across to any replacement screen. Justin at The Art of Repair tested a prototype aftermarket button for the 7 through to the 8 Plus. It brought back the basic home press but not Touch ID, and it needed a solder link to work.
