If We Come To You

We know you are busy, so we offer a service where we come to you. We will arrive in a Red DrFixit Van at your home or work or wherever you want. Our vans are fully fitted with all the necessary tools to get your device working in no time. Did I mention our call out charge starts from only £15 to come to you? I am sure you agree… that level of convenience makes perfect sense. To find out more, please visit our page If We Come To You.

No Fix No Fee?

We would love to be able to fix every device and would love to be able to give you your device back working as it should be. Some devices are just beyond repair or need to be taken to a Micro-Soldering Specialist. Our expertise has taken years to acquire, so we charge £20 for any device which we are not able to repair. This by no means covers our costs, as we sometimes spend in excess of an hour or two working through different options to get your device working again. In the event that you have called us out to your location, we will only charge you the call out fee plus £10. If we are unable to repair your device, we may still be able to help get your device fixed and may even be able to get your data recovered. We have teamed up with a specialist “Micro-Soldering Board Level Repair Company” here in Bristol specifically to ensure we get your device fixed in almost all cases.

12 Month Warranty

We will not use cheap parts and will certainly not do a botch job either. You can rely on us. If you have any problems after the repair has been completed, just give us a call.

Google Pixel 8a Known Issues

The screen scratches sooner than you’d expect

So, the 8a’s front glass is Corning Gorilla Glass 3, not the tougher Victus glass on the Pixel 8. It’s a much older formula. One reviewer found scratches on their screen after two or three days of normal use. Two or three days. A screen protector from day one is cheap insurance here. Light hairlines are cosmetic. But once a scratch catches your fingernail, or sits right where you read, the real fix is a new display.

It’s IP67, not IP68

This one catches people out, because the 8a looks so much like the Pixel 8. The Pixel 8 is rated IP68. The 8a is IP67. Rain and splashes are fine on either, but the lower rating matters most when the phone is under water for longer. So I wouldn’t take it swimming, and I wouldn’t leave it in a sink. If it’s been submerged and the speaker sounds muffled afterwards, switch it off and get it looked at.

Slow charging is normal on this model

The 8a tops out at 18 watts with a cable and 7.5 watts on a wireless pad, below the Pixel 8’s 27 and 12. There’s no plug in the box either, just a USB-C cable and an adapter. It can’t wirelessly top up another device. So a full charge taking over two hours isn’t a fault. That’s the design. If it suddenly charges a lot slower than it used to, that’s a different story.

Mobile network eating the battery

Here’s one that comes up with 8a owners again and again. Open the battery usage screen and “Mobile network” sits at the top, around 40% in a couple of reports, even from people who are mostly on Wi-Fi or have a strong signal. One reviewer’s 8a ran warm in their pocket doing nothing with only mobile data on, and cooled down once data was off. Some owners did better by preferring 4G over 5G. One found that caused dropped calls, so it’s a trade-off.

Buzzy vibration and a harsh speaker at full volume

One long-term reviewer found the 8a’s vibration motor much buzzier than the Pixel 8’s. On a table you hear a rattly buzz rather than feel a firm thump. That’s how this model feels. It isn’t a loose part. The loudspeaker gets loud, but at the very top some frequencies turn harsh. Crackling at low volume is different, and that one’s worth checking.
