We know you are busy, so we offer a service where we come to you. We will arrive in a Red DrFixit Van at your home or work or wherever you want. Our vans are fully fitted with all the necessary tools to get your device working in no time. Did I mention our call out charge starts from only £15 to come to you? I am sure you agree… that level of convenience makes perfect sense. To find out more, please visit our page If We Come To You.

No Fix No Fee?

We would love to be able to fix every device and would love to be able to give you your device back working as it should be. Some devices are just beyond repair or need to be taken to a Micro-Soldering Specialist. Our expertise has taken years to acquire, so we charge £20 for any device which we are not able to repair. This by no means covers our costs, as we sometimes spend in excess of an hour or two working through different options to get your device working again. In the event that you have called us out to your location, we will only charge you the call out fee plus £10. If we are unable to repair your device, we may still be able to help get your device fixed and may even be able to get your data recovered. We have teamed up with a specialist “Micro-Soldering Board Level Repair Company” here in Bristol specifically to ensure we get your device fixed in almost all cases.

12 Month Warranty

We will not use cheap parts and will certainly not do a botch job either. You can rely on us. If you have any problems after the repair has been completed, just give us a call.

iPad Air 3 2019 Known Issues

Charge port is soldered to the logic board

The Lightning port on the iPad Air 3 isn’t a separate part you unplug and swap. It’s soldered to the logic board, and it runs underneath the board, with its joints on the underside. So, a worn or broken port means the logic board has to come out first. A repair specialist who replaced one described getting the board out as slow and very difficult. Don’t expect a port replacement on this model to be a quick job. And a dead port isn’t always the reason an Air 3 won’t charge.

Charging chip faults that look like a bad port

One Air 3, less than a year old, came in for data recovery and wouldn’t charge. The port was fine. The fault was a chip in the charging circuit, which the repairer calls the Hydra. Once that was sorted, after a lot of work, the iPad charged normally again, with the screen on or off. Meanwhile, a second Air 3 on the same bench really did have a broken port. So, the obvious suspect isn’t always the guilty one. A no-charge Air 3 can be a board-level fault, and a new port alone won’t touch it.

Charging that cuts out after half a minute

This one is a proper trap. Inside the Air 3, the headphone jack connects to the logic board through its own connector near the top. Unplug that connector and nothing seems to happen. But roughly 20 to 30 seconds later, charging stops. Plug it back in and, after a similar pause, charging starts again. The repairer who found it had been chasing an iPad that charged one minute and not the next, and the delay made the link very hard to spot. So, an Air 3 that charges on and off after being opened may have a headphone jack connection that isn’t seated or isn’t working.

A thin shell that can flex

The Air 3 is 6.1 mm thick, and its aluminium shell feels it. One owner who used his as a second device for four years says the body comes across as slightly flimsy, and that pressing the home button lets you feel the surface give beneath it. He also mentions other users reporting their Air 3s bending over time. No big surprise, given how little metal there is to work with. His advice is simple: keep it in a solid case and don’t sit on it.
