If We Come To You

We know you are busy, so we offer a service where we come to you. We will arrive in a Red DrFixit Van at your home or work or wherever you want. Our vans are fully fitted with all the necessary tools to get your device working in no time. Did I mention our call out charge starts from only £15 to come to you? I am sure you agree… that level of convenience makes perfect sense. To find out more, please visit our page If We Come To You.

No Fix No Fee?

We would love to be able to fix every device and would love to be able to give you your device back working as it should be. Some devices are just beyond repair or need to be taken to a Micro-Soldering Specialist. Our expertise has taken years to acquire, so we charge £20 for any device which we are not able to repair. This by no means covers our costs, as we sometimes spend in excess of an hour or two working through different options to get your device working again. In the event that you have called us out to your location, we will only charge you the call out fee plus £10. If we are unable to repair your device, we may still be able to help get your device fixed and may even be able to get your data recovered. We have teamed up with a specialist “Micro-Soldering Board Level Repair Company” here in Bristol specifically to ensure we get your device fixed in almost all cases.

12 Month Warranty

We will not use cheap parts and will certainly not do a botch job either. You can rely on us. If you have any problems after the repair has been completed, just give us a call.

iPad Pro 9.7 2016 Known Issues

Random restarts after the battery was disconnected

One board repairer had a 9.7″ iPad Pro that started restarting on its own after the owner disconnected the battery to replace the screen. He says these restarts are rarely random. They usually run on a timer, and he put this one at about every three minutes. The panic log under Analytics showed a watchdog timeout, which he says on an iPad normally points to battery data. He says diagnostic software will then show no battery data and zero charge cycles. The tablet cannot read the battery, so it keeps rebooting. His best guess was a bent or broken pin on the battery connector. The same customer sent a second unit with the same fault.

Dead and not charging: the charging chip

PC Vitamins had a 9.7″ Pro that was completely dead and would not charge. Another shop had already tried and failed to fix it. A charging-chip tester flagged the USB charging chip (Tristar/Hydra) as failed straight away. They replaced that chip, the screen came back, and the tablet drew about 2 amps on charge. This is one case. The video does not say how often it happens on this model. What it does show is that one failed charging chip can leave the whole tablet looking dead.

No power: a power chip running hot

Northridge Fix had a 9.7″ Pro with no power. Their meter showed shorts on the capacitors across one area of the board. Under a thermal camera, a small power chip got hot as soon as the charging cable went in and cooled down when it came out. The short readings later cleared, but they replaced the chip anyway. It is not normal for that chip to heat up with the cable connected. After the swap the tablet charged at 5 volts and 1.1 amps and powered on. They say they do not change power chips on this model very often, but it does happen.

A software update that bricked some units

eWEEK reported at the time that Apple pulled an iOS update after some 9.7″ iPad Pro owners said their tablets stopped working entirely once it was installed. An Apple spokesman confirmed the problem and the pullback, and the report described Apple as working on a fix. The report says “some” owners. It does not say how many units were affected or whether every 9.7″ Pro was at risk. This is a past event, not a current fault.
