No Fix No Fee?
We would love to be able to fix every device and would love to be able to give you your device back working as it should be. Some devices are just beyond repair or need to be taken to a Micro-Soldering Specialist. Our expertise has taken years to acquire, so we charge £20 for any device which we are not able to repair. This by no means covers our costs, as we sometimes spend in excess of an hour or two working through different options to get your device working again. In the event that you have called us out to your location, we will only charge you the call out fee plus £10. If we are unable to repair your device, we may still be able to help get your device fixed and may even be able to get your data recovered. We have teamed up with a specialist “Micro-Soldering Board Level Repair Company” here in Bristol specifically to ensure we get your device fixed in almost all cases.

MacBook Pro 13″ 2019/20 Known Issues
Loud, slow, and running hot
Here we have the 13-inch MacBook Pro from 2019 and 2020, the A2171, A2159, A2289 and A2338. Four faults come through the door on this chassis more than anything else, and three of the four involve real board-level diagnosis rather than a straight parts swap.
Start with the one owners cause without ever knowing it. These machines run hot by design, and they run hotter still once the fan blades and the heatsink fins have packed solid with dust, hair and pocket lint. The air path narrows, the fan spins harder to move less air, and the processor throttles itself down to stay alive. What the customer describes is a laptop that has become loud and slow. What it actually is, is filth. That means stripping the machine and cleaning the fans and heatsink properly, not firing compressed air through the vents and hoping.
Lines, a scrambled image, or no picture on the A2159
The same debris causes something worse on the A2159. Vertical lines down the panel, a distorted or scrambled image, or no picture at all, and the cause sits on the logic board rather than in the display assembly. We do not order a screen for these until the board has been checked and measured. Fit a display first and you have sold somebody an expensive part that did not fix the fault, and now they are paying twice.
No power, no fan, no chime
Then there is the dead one. Absolutely no power, no fan, no chime, nothing at all when the charger goes in. That is not a battery diagnosis by default. It means tracing the power rails to find where the chain actually stops, then testing and replacing the component responsible, rather than guessing at a part and hoping.
Black screen with the machine still running
Last is the black screen where the machine is plainly alive. Fans turning, keyboard backlight on, but a dark display. Some of those are genuine board faults, and some are the Mac hanging during startup or losing its display settings, which is fixed at the software end and costs nothing in parts. We check that first. I would rather be 100% upfront and tell you it was a five minute job than invoice you for a board repair you never needed.
