No Fix No Fee?

We would love to be able to fix every device and would love to be able to give you your device back working as it should be. Some devices are just beyond repair or need to be taken to a Micro-Soldering Specialist. Our expertise has taken years to acquire, so we charge £20 for any device which we are not able to repair. This by no means covers our costs, as we sometimes spend in excess of an hour or two working through different options to get your device working again. In the event that you have called us out to your location, we will only charge you the call out fee plus £10. If we are unable to repair your device, we may still be able to help get your device fixed and may even be able to get your data recovered. We have teamed up with a specialist “Micro-Soldering Board Level Repair Company” here in Bristol specifically to ensure we get your device fixed in almost all cases.

Motorola G7 Known Issues

Stuck at the fastboot screen with no bootable slot

The G7 keeps two complete copies of the system, slot A and slot B, and an update or a ROM flash writes into whichever one isn’t currently running. Owners following third-party install guides get caught here constantly, because the guides skip the slot step, the wrong copy gets overwritten, and the phone lands on the fastboot screen reporting no bootable slot. Nothing is physically broken. The partition it was told to start from just isn’t there any more, and fastboot on its own often won’t put it back.

A phone that refuses to accept a flash at all

This is the next level down, and the difference matters before anyone strips the handset. The phone reaches fastboot or shows nothing whatsoever, and every attempt to write firmware back gets refused — one owner described having no partitions left to flash to. That isn’t a fastboot job any more. It needs a loader file, a blankflash, or Lenovo’s own rescue tool talking to the phone below the level fastboot ever reaches, with Motorola’s drivers installed on the computer first.

So this is the part that actually matters to most owners. The clean reflash that revives a bricked G7 writes the whole firmware package back, user data area included. One owner on the G7 bootloader thread got a flash working and still couldn’t finish the job, because the only file set that would take wanted the userdata partition erased — and that was the one thing he wasn’t prepared to lose. Data comes off first, before a single partition is written. A phone that only reaches fastboot has far fewer options than one still reaching its home screen.

Dead on the charger, or booting somewhere you can’t see it

A G7 showing nothing on a charging lead looks identical to one sitting silently at fastboot, and those are not the same repair. The symptom turns up right across this Motorola generation — the G7, G6, E5 and E4 all get grouped together in owner troubleshooting for it. So before anything comes apart, it’s worth proving which state the phone is genuinely in. A handset drawing current and enumerating to a computer is running something, and that points at a software recovery rather than a dead board.

Silent earpiece while the loudspeaker still works

Worth splitting this one before ordering any part, because G7 audio complaints break three ways: media volume gone, notification sounds gone, or the receiver dead while speakerphone carries on working normally. That last one is the useful signal. A phone that plays music out loud and then goes silent held against the ear has already proved its loudspeaker and its audio path are fine, which narrows the fault to the earpiece receiver rather than anything the two share.
