No Fix No Fee?

Some devices are just beyond repair or need to be taken to a Micro-Soldering Specialist. Our expertise has taken years to acquire, so we charge £20 for any device which we are not able to repair. This by no means covers our costs, as we sometimes spend in excess of an hour or two working through different options to get your device working again. In the event that you have called us out to your location, we will only charge you the call out fee plus £10. If we are unable to repair your device, we may still be able to help get your device fixed and may even be able to get your data recovered. We have teamed up with a specialist “Micro-Soldering Board Level Repair Company” here in Bristol specifically to ensure we get your device fixed in almost all cases.

Samsung A52 & A52S Known Issues

Screen-on charging drops to 5W

So most of what comes in as an A52 or A52S charging fault turns out not to be a fault at all. Two separate behaviours get blamed on each other, and it saves everybody a lot of bother to take them apart before anyone opens the phone.

The first one is screen-on charging. Plug an A52S in while you’re using it and it settles at about 5 watts. Lock the screen and it climbs straight back up to the full 15, or into the 22 to 25 watt range if there’s a Super Fast adapter on the end of the cable. That is the phone protecting its own battery. The display is pulling current and putting heat into the cell, so the charging circuit backs off rather than push through it. Bluetooth audio or a call with the display off will still fast-charge, as long as the phone isn’t hammering the network at the same time.

Hot charging and an “unsupported charger” warning

Here’s the one that is a genuine fault: debris or moisture in the USB-C port. The pattern to watch for is a damaged or dodgy lead followed by a hot charge, 50 to 60 degrees C on the phone, and afterwards it won’t take a normal-speed charge and throws up “unsupported charger” at a genuine Samsung adapter, while super-fast charging carries on more or less working. Power it off before you touch anything. Blow the port out, and if there’s still muck in there, isopropyl on a fine brush, work it gently, blow it out again, let it dry properly. Not on a water-damaged handset. And don’t wait for the moisture warning triangle to tell you the port is dirty, because on plenty of these it never appears.

Overnight battery drain with zero screen-on time

Then there’s the overnight drain, and nobody has pinned this one down. Some owners see 15% gone in six to eight hours with zero screen-on time and nothing at all showing in the battery graph. The trigger that reproduces it is leaving Wi-Fi switched on when the router is powered down overnight, so the phone spends the night hunting for a network that isn’t there. Leave the router running and the same handset loses 1 or 2%. The tidy explanation, that it’s one bad unit, doesn’t hold up: an owner who ran two identical A52S handsets side by side on the same night watched both drop from 100% to 86 and 87. So the things to try are Wi-Fi off overnight, automatic Wi-Fi scanning disabled in the advanced settings, 5G dropped back to 4G, a cache wipe and a Device Care pass, and a check that Always On Display is genuinely off rather than sitting on “Tap to show”. What you don’t do is sell somebody a battery for it.

Weak haptics, and recovery mode missing the wipe option

Two smaller ones worth knowing. The haptics on the A52S are weak and slow because there’s no linear motor in there, so a customer convinced the vibration motor is dying may well be describing the phone working normally. And on some units the standard hard-reset route dead-ends: the buttons work, recovery comes up, and the “Wipe data / factory reset” line just isn’t on the menu. The combo isn’t the problem there, so don’t go chasing buttons or a board fault over it.
