No Fix No Fee?

We would love to be able to fix every device and would love to be able to give you your device back working as it should be. Some devices are just beyond repair or need to be taken to a Micro-Soldering Specialist. Our expertise has taken years to acquire, so we charge £20 for any device which we are not able to repair. This by no means covers our costs, as we sometimes spend in excess of an hour or two working through different options to get your device working again. In the event that you have called us out to your location, we will only charge you the call out fee plus £10. If we are unable to repair your device, we may still be able to help get your device fixed and may even be able to get your data recovered. We have teamed up with a specialist “Micro-Soldering Board Level Repair Company” here in Bristol specifically to ensure we get your device fixed in almost all cases.

Google Pixel 8 Pro Known Issues

The top of the screen breaks up during video playback, and a screen recording won’t show it

Owners hit this the same way — video playback, usually YouTube, and the top half of the display dissolves into glitching. Swapping to another app doesn’t clear it. Here’s the useful bit: one owner recorded the screen mid-fault and the recording came back perfectly clean. Normal video, mangled panel. That’s your diagnosis right there. If the frames the phone is producing are fine and the frames on the glass aren’t, the fault sits in the graphics hardware, not the app. Reinstalling YouTube fixes nothing.

It escalates, and nothing you can do from the settings menu touches it

This one doesn’t sit still. Owners describe going from occasional glitching to laggy animations, then freezes, then a phone that’s mostly unusable — inside a fortnight. Safe mode, clearing data, a full factory reset: none of it makes any difference, which is exactly what you’d expect from failing silicon. The reported fix is a mainboard replacement, and a board job is a different universe from a screen swap in both time and cost. Google sold this phone on seven years of updates. Shame nobody told the graphics chip.

Sent in under warranty, returned with “no fault found”

Worth knowing before you post it anywhere. One owner sent his glitching handset to Google and got it back unrepaired, the report saying no error could be found. It locked up again afterwards and was unusable. That’s not incompetence, it’s physics — an intermittent graphics fault that only appears under load is easy to miss on a bench. So capture it first: video of the glitching, the steps that trigger it, how long it takes. And have the model number from Settings to hand, GC3VE or G1MNW.

The camera app opens to a black screen, then closes itself

Different fault, same phone. The camera app launches to a black screen and closes itself a few seconds later. Others get a crash whenever the handset rotates — portrait to landscape and it’s gone. Filter the Pixel Camera reviews to this device and there’s a pile of one-star complaints saying exactly that. One owner pulled a bug report and traced his to Repainter, a third-party theming app, hijacking auto-rotate. Uninstall it, camera behaves. Thumbs up for that. But another owner’s survived safe mode, so it isn’t always a rogue app.

Flashing the wrong EFS backup wipes the IMEI, and you can’t borrow one

Here’s a good way to brick the radio side of a Pixel 8 Pro: flash another Pixel 8 Pro’s EFS backup onto it. That partition holds this handset’s own identity, and a donor’s copy doesn’t transplant — the IMEI reads as zeros, the baseband goes unknown, and owners report the sensors and call microphone stopping dead alongside it. Without your own backup taken beforehand, the numbers on the original box are the only copy you’ve got. Back up EFS before you flash anything. Every time.

Stuck on the Google logo, with the escape hatch already closed

A reboot that never finishes. Google logo, forever, and a factory reset from recovery doesn’t shift it — which tells you the damage is below the user data layer. The fix is flashing the factory image back on. The catch is a genuinely nasty piece of design: that requires OEM Unlocking, and OEM Unlocking is a toggle inside Developer Options on a phone that now won’t boot. Didn’t flip it months ago? The flash script fails at the first step. Sideloading failed too.
