If We Come To You

We know you are busy, so we offer a service where we come to you. We will arrive in a Red DrFixit Van at your home or work or wherever you want. Our vans are fully fitted with all the necessary tools to get your device working in no time. Did I mention our call out charge starts from only £15 to come to you? I am sure you agree… that level of convenience makes perfect sense. To find out more, please visit our page If We Come To You.

No Fix No Fee?

We would love to be able to fix every device and would love to be able to give you your device back working as it should be. Some devices are just beyond repair or need to be taken to a Micro-Soldering Specialist. Our expertise has taken years to acquire, so we charge £20 for any device which we are not able to repair. This by no means covers our costs, as we sometimes spend in excess of an hour or two working through different options to get your device working again. In the event that you have called us out to your location, we will only charge you the call out fee plus £10. If we are unable to repair your device, we may still be able to help get your device fixed and may even be able to get your data recovered. We have teamed up with a specialist “Micro-Soldering Board Level Repair Company” here in Bristol specifically to ensure we get your device fixed in almost all cases.

12 Month Warranty

We will not use cheap parts and will certainly not do a botch job either. You can rely on us. If you have any problems after the repair has been completed, just give us a call.

iPhone 6 Known Issues

Backlight failure that starts deep in the circuit

Jessa Jones of iPad Rehab calls the iPhone 6 backlight failure one of the worst backlight problems there is. On most devices, a short at the screen connector pops a small filter on the board, and that filter works like a fuse, protecting the rest of the circuit. On the 6, she says, the short to ground more typically starts inside the circuit, at capacitors sitting nearer the processor, so the filter never gets the chance to blow. On one phone she opened, the filter was intact, the backlight line was shorted to ground and the diode had a hole blown in it. She says she doesn’t know what started that short.

Dead and not charging: the Tristar charging chip

PC Vitamins took in an iPhone 6 that wouldn’t charge or switch on. The shop also lists fast battery drain and a computer not recognising the phone among the symptoms. With the charger plugged in, the meter read zero. Replacing U1700, the Tristar charging chip, brought charging back. The shop blames cheap chargers, saying their voltage spikes often blow this chip. That’s their opinion, and the video covers one phone.

**Repair note:** STS Telecom got an iPhone 6 from another shop that suspected the Tristar chip. On an ordinary charger the battery voltage kept climbing and the phone booted. He won’t swap a chip sitting right against the flash memory unless he has to.

Liquid damage and corrosion under the shields

According to VCC Board Repairs, the iPhone 6 isn’t really designed to keep water out, so liquid can reach any part of the board. On the 6 he opened for data recovery, corrosion showed up in several spots, and it was worse under the shields and stickers. He says corrosion eats into solder joints and bridges lines to ground or to each other. In his experience there’s always corrosion under a chip he calls Chestnut, and that alone can stop the phone booting. He treats liquid-damaged boards as data recovery jobs only: strip the non-essential chips and get it running long enough to pull the data off.
