If We Come To You

We know you are busy, so we offer a service where we come to you. We will arrive in a Red DrFixit Van at your home or work or wherever you want. Our vans are fully fitted with all the necessary tools to get your device working in no time. Did I mention our call out charge starts from only £15 to come to you? I am sure you agree… that level of convenience makes perfect sense. To find out more, please visit our page If We Come To You.

No Fix No Fee?

We would love to be able to fix every device and would love to be able to give you your device back working as it should be. Some devices are just beyond repair or need to be taken to a Micro-Soldering Specialist. Our expertise has taken years to acquire, so we charge £20 for any device which we are not able to repair. This by no means covers our costs, as we sometimes spend in excess of an hour or two working through different options to get your device working again. In the event that you have called us out to your location, we will only charge you the call out fee plus £10. If we are unable to repair your device, we may still be able to help get your device fixed and may even be able to get your data recovered. We have teamed up with a specialist “Micro-Soldering Board Level Repair Company” here in Bristol specifically to ensure we get your device fixed in almost all cases.

12 Month Warranty

We will not use cheap parts and will certainly not do a botch job either. You can rely on us. If you have any problems after the repair has been completed, just give us a call.

Samsung A31 Known Issues

Black screen — won’t turn on, won’t respond

So, the one that walks in most often: it was fine yesterday, this morning it’s a black screen and it won’t wake for anything. No logo. No vibration. Nothing. Before anybody opens it up it’s worth a forced restart and then a proper spell on a charger, because a phone that’s hung or completely flat looks identical to a dead one from the outside. If it still won’t boot after that, you’ve got a real fault on your hands — and that’s a bench job, not a button combination.

Freezing and an unresponsive touch screen

Different symptom, same panic: the screen’s lit, you can see the home screen sitting there, and the glass just won’t answer. Sometimes it comes back on its own, sometimes it doesn’t. Holding the power and volume-down buttons together for a good 30 seconds forces it through a restart, and on the A31 that usually clears it. What matters is what happens next. Once is software having a bad day. Every day is something underneath, and the reboot is only hiding it.

4G data dropping out while the signal stays up

This one gets reported by A31 owners from more or less day one. Full bars, 4G showing on the status bar, and the data just stops — anything from a few seconds to a few minutes — then comes back on its own. Calls usually stay fine, which is the clue: the radio isn’t dead, it’s the data side dropping. Rule out the SIM and the network first. If it still does it on a second known good SIM, you’re looking at antenna connections and the board.

Distorted bottom loudspeaker that a new speaker doesn’t fix

Here’s the one that catches people out. The bottom loudspeaker starts distorting and everything played through it sounds torn up. Owner fits a new speaker. No change. Reflashes the stock software. Still no change. That sequence matters, because you don’t have a board problem until you know you don’t have a parts problem — and by then, you do. It’s the audio circuit on the board, not the speaker, so it’s micro-soldering work rather than a straight parts swap.
