No Fix No Fee?

We would love to be able to fix every device and would love to be able to give you your device back working as it should be. Some devices are just beyond repair or need to be taken to a Micro-Soldering Specialist. Our expertise has taken years to acquire, so we charge £20 for any device which we are not able to repair. This by no means covers our costs, as we sometimes spend in excess of an hour or two working through different options to get your device working again. In the event that you have called us out to your location, we will only charge you the call out fee plus £10. If we are unable to repair your device, we may still be able to help get your device fixed and may even be able to get your data recovered. We have teamed up with a specialist “Micro-Soldering Board Level Repair Company” here in Bristol specifically to ensure we get your device fixed in almost all cases.

Samsung S8+ Plus Known Issues

Red edges and the S8+ colour lottery

Tilt some S8+ screens and the curved edges turn pink. So, is that the panel or the settings? Owners argued about it in the big XDA threads and never settled it.

The S8+ reports vary a lot. Some owners saw a red band down the curved sides. One saw it only across the top half of the screen. Another said it disappeared when they looked at the phone straight on and only showed at an angle. One owner bought two S8+ phones on the same day. The first had the red top half and the second was darker, washed out and slightly yellow. Someone at a launch event saw three display units running the same demo with matching settings: one white, one red, one yellow.

But plenty of S8+ owners said their screens were fine. One put a faint blue tinge at the edges down to the curve bending the colour. Another had a thin pink strip at the very top and bottom that faded on its own.

Samsung’s suggestion, passed on in the thread, was the RGB colour sliders. The results were mixed. One owner had to drag red all the way down before it helped. Another said the sliders only appeared in Adaptive mode. A third said it didn’t work and swapped the phone instead.

Most owners who named their model were on US-network versions. Only one poster had the SM-G955F, the version sold in the UK. They said it wasn’t a hardware fault and that a fix existed, but they didn’t say what it was.

Before you blame the panel, check two things owners raised. The blue light filter alone turns the whole screen noticeably red. And one owner’s pink tint was just the factory screen film.

Samsung S8+ Plus Specifications

The Samsung S8+ has a 6.2-inch Super AMOLED screen (1440 x 2960). UK and European phones (SM-G955F) run Samsung’s Exynos 8895, while the US and China versions used Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835. It came with 64GB of storage and 4GB of RAM, or 128GB with 6GB, and the dual-SIM model takes a microSD card in the SIM tray.

The rear camera is a single 12MP with optical stabilisation. The 8MP selfie camera sits beside a dedicated iris scanner. The battery is 3500mAh, with 15W wired charging and wireless charging. It’s Gorilla Glass 5 front and back on an aluminium frame, rated IP68, with a 3.5mm headphone jack and a fingerprint reader on the back.
