If We Come To You

We know you are busy, so we offer a service where we come to you. We will arrive in a Red DrFixit Van at your home or work or wherever you want. Our vans are fully fitted with all the necessary tools to get your device working in no time. Did I mention our call out charge starts from only £15 to come to you? I am sure you agree… that level of convenience makes perfect sense. To find out more, please visit our page If We Come To You.

No Fix No Fee?

We would love to be able to fix every device and would love to be able to give you your device back working as it should be. Some devices are just beyond repair or need to be taken to a Micro-Soldering Specialist. Our expertise has taken years to acquire, so we charge £20 for any device which we are not able to repair. This by no means covers our costs, as we sometimes spend in excess of an hour or two working through different options to get your device working again. In the event that you have called us out to your location, we will only charge you the call out fee plus £10. If we are unable to repair your device, we may still be able to help get your device fixed and may even be able to get your data recovered. We have teamed up with a specialist “Micro-Soldering Board Level Repair Company” here in Bristol specifically to ensure we get your device fixed in almost all cases.

12 Month Warranty

We will not use cheap parts and will certainly not do a botch job either. You can rely on us. If you have any problems after the repair has been completed, just give us a call.

Samsung S8 Known Issues

Suddenly dead: no screen, no charging, no response

Here we have the most common story in the S8 sources. The phone was working, and then it was not. There was no screen, no charging light and no vibration. Is it the battery? One owner of an Exynos SM-G950FD fitted a new battery and got nothing, which points at the board. In a board-level repair video on a dead S8, the power line was shorted, pulling about 2 amps before the phone was even told to boot. The culprit was a single capacitor. With it removed, the short cleared and the phone booted. The catch: the S8 encrypts its storage from the factory, so the data only comes back if the board is repaired and the phone boots by itself. Another repairer notes that the S8 board soaks up heat and its power-management chip, CPU and storage chip are all underfilled. That is careful work, not a quick job.

Random restarts that survive a factory reset

Owners in two S8 threads describe reboots that start now and then and get worse until the phone is barely usable. One owner, on an Exynos SM-G950FD, found it restarted mostly with the screen off, and more often on 4G. They factory reset it and reflashed the firmware more than once. Did any of that help? It did not. The second owner could only keep theirs running by chilling it on a cool pack. When a full software wipe changes nothing and temperature changes everything, the fault is no longer software. The advice in the thread was battery first, board second. Neither thread reached a confirmed cause.

Red tint around the screen edges

To be 100% upfront: the big red-tint thread is mostly S8+ owners. The evidence for the standard S8 is thin, and it points both ways. One owner posted a photo of a pinkish standard S8. Another, on a US Snapdragon model, reported red around the edges. Two more S8 owners said theirs were fine. We do not have a single confirmed report from the UK SM-G950F. Samsung’s advice, relayed in the thread, was the RGB colour sliders in display settings. Did that fix it? The reports disagree. One owner said it helped only with red dragged right down. Another said the sliders only appear in Adaptive mode. A third said it did not work at all. One poster called it a software problem without saying what the fix was.

Repair note: won’t charge after the back has been off

On the S8, the wireless charging coil sits over the battery and also carries the battery temperature sensor. In one teardown the phone powered on with the coil left off, but it refused to charge and showed a temperature warning. With the coil refitted and its two screws tightened so its contacts meet the board, it charged normally. So if an S8 stops charging straight after a back-glass or battery job, check that coil before anything else. What can you do? Often, just seat it properly.
