If We Come To You

We know you are busy, so we offer a service where we come to you. We will arrive in a Red DrFixit Van at your home or work or wherever you want. Our vans are fully fitted with all the necessary tools to get your device working in no time. Did I mention our call out charge starts from only £15 to come to you? I am sure you agree… that level of convenience makes perfect sense. To find out more, please visit our page If We Come To You.

No Fix No Fee?

We would love to be able to fix every device and would love to be able to give you your device back working as it should be. Some devices are just beyond repair or need to be taken to a Micro-Soldering Specialist. Our expertise has taken years to acquire, so we charge £20 for any device which we are not able to repair. This by no means covers our costs, as we sometimes spend in excess of an hour or two working through different options to get your device working again. In the event that you have called us out to your location, we will only charge you the call out fee plus £10. If we are unable to repair your device, we may still be able to help get your device fixed and may even be able to get your data recovered. We have teamed up with a specialist “Micro-Soldering Board Level Repair Company” here in Bristol specifically to ensure we get your device fixed in almost all cases.

12 Month Warranty

We will not use cheap parts and will certainly not do a botch job either. You can rely on us. If you have any problems after the repair has been completed, just give us a call.

Samsung S6 Known Issues

Dead S6, no power, no boot, and it isn’t always the board

So, an S6 that shows nothing at all isn’t automatically a write-off. In one board-level repair video, a completely dead S6 went on a bench power supply. It drew a small, steady current and did nothing when asked to boot. And the main power line that feeds the rest of the board? Practically zero volts. In diode mode it read as a dead short. Push power into that line and it gulps current, and a blast of freeze spray shows which little component is warming up. Lift that one part off and the line reads normal again. The phone boots, with the data still on it. That’s one documented repair, not proof that every dead S6 goes this way. But it’s why “won’t turn on” needs proper testing before anyone says the word “motherboard”.

Gear VR setup popping up every time you plug in

Here’s a weird one from S6 owners. You plug in the charging cable, the screen flickers or goes black, and the Gear VR setup wizard starts talking at you, as if the phone had just been clipped into a headset. Then it stops responding until you force it off. A computer won’t see it over USB either, though it still charges. In one case the culprit was a metal-framed case. With the cable in, metal touched metal, and the phone read that as a headset connection. Case off, problem gone. Another owner had the same symptom and the cure was a new charging port. So test it without the case first. If it still happens on a bare phone, the port is the suspect.

Repair note: why an S6 charging port isn’t a simple swap

You’d think a bad port just means swapping the flex cable it sits on. On the S6, that’s the risky way to do it. That flex also runs up between the screen and the frame, and it’s what lights the capacitive keys either side of the home button. Pulling the whole thing out puts the screen at risk. So the safer route is to replace just the port connector on the existing flex, using low-melt solder and as little heat as possible, because the screen is sitting right there.
