If We Come To You

We know you are busy, so we offer a service where we come to you. We will arrive in a Red DrFixit Van at your home or work or wherever you want. Our vans are fully fitted with all the necessary tools to get your device working in no time. Did I mention our call out charge starts from only £15 to come to you? I am sure you agree… that level of convenience makes perfect sense. To find out more, please visit our page If We Come To You.

No Fix No Fee?

We would love to be able to fix every device and would love to be able to give you your device back working as it should be. Some devices are just beyond repair or need to be taken to a Micro-Soldering Specialist. Our expertise has taken years to acquire, so we charge £20 for any device which we are not able to repair. This by no means covers our costs, as we sometimes spend in excess of an hour or two working through different options to get your device working again. In the event that you have called us out to your location, we will only charge you the call out fee plus £10. If we are unable to repair your device, we may still be able to help get your device fixed and may even be able to get your data recovered. We have teamed up with a specialist “Micro-Soldering Board Level Repair Company” here in Bristol specifically to ensure we get your device fixed in almost all cases.

12 Month Warranty

We will not use cheap parts and will certainly not do a botch job either. You can rely on us. If you have any problems after the repair has been completed, just give us a call.

Samsung S7 Edge Known Issues

Curved glass: gorgeous, fragile and pricey

That screen is the whole point of the S7 Edge. Glass curving off both sides looks incredible. It also means nothing guards the edges when the phone lands face-down. One restoration started with a phone dropped face-down on a tile floor: front and back were shattered, and the display and touch still worked fine. So did the risk of slicing a finger on the broken glass. Replacement curved OLED panels are expensive. They usually come already fitted to a new frame, so a screen job means moving the board, battery, headphone jack, earpiece and antenna cables across to that frame. And screen protectors? On that curve, they tend not to stick properly.

Back glass that lifts before it breaks

Good news first. In a bend test, the S7 Edge didn’t snap, no matter how hard it was pushed. Rather impressive. The bad news is that pushing on the screen side made the back glass lift slightly away from the frame. Once that seal breaks, the water resistance is gone, even though nothing looks damaged. The back pocket of tight jeans is a bad home for this phone. The front glass scratches at a level six, with deeper grooves at a level seven, which is pretty typical. The back glass is softer: a razor marked the back and left the front untouched.

Stuck on the “Galaxy S7 edge” logo

Owners of the SM-G935F, the version sold in the UK, report the phone freezing on the static “Samsung Galaxy S7 edge” screen. One started straight after a system update. Another happened with no obvious trigger, twice in one day. Reflashing stock firmware didn’t fix it for them. With Google’s Factory Reset Protection switched on, flashes kept failing, and one owner was told to update the bootloader before anything would boot. When reflashing gets nowhere, one reply points at the storage chip on the motherboard. That’s a board-level fault, not a software one.

A home button with a mind of its own

The physical home button doubles as the fingerprint reader, and it’s easy to press in a pocket. One owner found it waking the phone and entering wrong PINs on its own, which locked them out for 5, 10 or 15 minutes at a time. The same owner said that about eight times out of ten, pulling the phone out opened the camera instead of unlocking. They pressed once, but the camera shortcut is a double press on that same button. Not dangerous. Just very annoying.

32GB fills up fast

The S7 Edge brought back the microSD slot. Thumbs up for that. But Samsung turned off adoptable storage, so the card can’t act as extra internal storage. Apps can be moved onto it, but that isn’t the same thing. On the 32GB model, Samsung’s own software takes a big chunk before anything gets installed, and owners report only about 22 to 25GB actually free. One owner’s phone was nearly full without many games or apps on it.
