No Fix No Fee?

We would love to be able to fix every device and would love to be able to give you your device back working as it should be. Some devices are just beyond repair or need to be taken to a Micro-Soldering Specialist. Our expertise has taken years to acquire, so we charge £20 for any device which we are not able to repair. This by no means covers our costs, as we sometimes spend in excess of an hour or two working through different options to get your device working again. In the event that you have called us out to your location, we will only charge you the call out fee plus £10. If we are unable to repair your device, we may still be able to help get your device fixed and may even be able to get your data recovered. We have teamed up with a specialist “Micro-Soldering Board Level Repair Company” here in Bristol specifically to ensure we get your device fixed in almost all cases.

Samsung Z Flip4 Known Issues

Inner screen protector lifting along the fold

Here we have the complaint that turns up most in Flip4 owner reports: the plastic film Samsung fits over the inner screen comes away right at the fold. Owners describe it at six, seven, nine and eleven months. It starts as a faint line and grows into a bubble across the middle of the display. Once it starts, it does not stop. What causes it? One long-term owner thinks the film shrinks over time and the adhesive cannot hold it in the dip of the crease. Another found dirt working in under the lifted edge. The film can be replaced, but it is stretched on with a dedicated applicator, not pressed on by hand.

Switches off when folded (hinge flex cable)

A Flip4 that powers off every time it is folded, and will only come back on with a charger connected. Is it the battery? Is it the board? In the repair case we have, it was the flex cable that runs through the hinge. With a test cable connected, the phone stopped shutting down. Under a microscope, the original cable was visibly damaged. To be 100% upfront, this is not a quick job. Part of that cable sits under the folding screen, so the inner display has to come off to reach it.

Soft inner screen surface

Samsung talks about Ultra Thin Glass, but that glass is not the top layer. In a scratch test, the surface marked at the same level as plastic, which means a fingernail can mark it. Opening the phone one-handed usually means a thumbnail dragging across the display. The front camera hole sits under that same plastic, not glass. One more thing that is normal: through polarised sunglasses the film shows a rainbow pattern. That is the film, not a faulty panel.

Gap when closed lets lint and dust in

Close a Flip4 and look at the side. The two halves do not meet flush. Owners report opening it to a screen covered in lint, with the edges of the film collecting dust too. The rating is IPX8, which covers water but not dust. In a heavy dust test the hinge kept working with no grinding, but sand is the real worry. There is a way in and no dust rating to fall back on.

The crease

Owners who moved up from the previous Flip say the Flip4 crease is shallower and harder to see head-on. It is still there. You feel it under a finger, and at some angles it shows a slightly different brightness. That is how this screen is built, not a fault. If the crease suddenly shows a raised line or a bubble, check the film first.
