No Fix No Fee?

We would love to be able to fix every device and would love to be able to give you your device back working as it should be. Some devices are just beyond repair or need to be taken to a Micro-Soldering Specialist. Our expertise has taken years to acquire, so we charge £20 for any device which we are not able to repair. This by no means covers our costs, as we sometimes spend in excess of an hour or two working through different options to get your device working again. In the event that you have called us out to your location, we will only charge you the call out fee plus £10. If we are unable to repair your device, we may still be able to help get your device fixed and may even be able to get your data recovered. We have teamed up with a specialist “Micro-Soldering Board Level Repair Company” here in Bristol specifically to ensure we get your device fixed in almost all cases.

We will not use cheap parts and will certainly not do a botch job either. You can rely on us. If you have any problems after the repair has been completed, just give us a call.

Samsung Z Fold4 Known Issues

Inner screen protector lifting where the crease meets the edges

So, this one starts small. Fold4 owners describe the factory-fitted film on the inner screen pulling up where the crease meets the top and bottom edges, around a year in for one owner. Another had it separate on its own, with no drop and no knock. It looks cosmetic. It isn’t, quite. The next fault shows why.

A black dot at the fold that becomes a black line

Here’s what can follow. One owner’s protector came loose. Within days a small black dot appeared in the middle of the crease, and in under a day it had grown into a black strip running the full height of the screen. Then touch stopped working altogether. Other Fold4 owners describe lines across the inner display, taps landing in the wrong place, or no touch response at all. So a protector peeling at the fold is worth sorting early.

Hinge that won’t open fully flat

Some Fold4s stop opening to a full 180 degrees. Lay one face down and the screen sits a few millimetres off the table, bowed inward like a butterfly. One owner couldn’t force theirs flat after a year of careful use. Another had the hinge replaced and saw the same thing come back within two months. Not every unit does it, though. Plenty open completely flat and hold any angle.

The hinge dust brushes coming loose

The Fold4’s IPX8 rating covers water, not dust. Small brushes, stuck in with adhesive, keep dust out of the hinge. Owners report that adhesive letting go and a strip of brush material working its way out. One owner’s theory is that the loose brushes shift and rub against the cables inside. Another pulled the loose strip out, and a few days later the phone shut off with a burnt smell. Did one cause the other? I honestly can’t tell from that report.

Inner screen cutting out past 90 degrees

The inner screen works fine until you open it past about 90 degrees. Then it flickers, and by roughly 100 degrees it’s black. It did the same in recovery mode, and a factory reset didn’t change anything, so this isn’t software. That points at something that crosses the hinge: the display’s flex cable, or the sensor that reads the fold angle. Another owner with the same fault had the inner screen replaced.

Shutting down as it’s folded or unfolded

A few Fold4s die at the moment they’re opened. One owner heard a crackle like old TV static as they unfolded it, the screens flickered, and it went off. After that it did it on every unfold. Another found theirs switching off whenever it was closed, and then it would only run while plugged in, with the battery reading stuck at 98%. An owner with the same symptoms says the culprit on theirs was a flexible component.
