No Fix No Fee?

We would love to be able to fix every device and would love to be able to give you your device back working as it should be. Some devices are just beyond repair or need to be taken to a Micro-Soldering Specialist. Our expertise has taken years to acquire, so we charge £20 for any device which we are not able to repair. This by no means covers our costs, as we sometimes spend in excess of an hour or two working through different options to get your device working again. In the event that you have called us out to your location, we will only charge you the call out fee plus £10. If we are unable to repair your device, we may still be able to help get your device fixed and may even be able to get your data recovered. We have teamed up with a specialist “Micro-Soldering Board Level Repair Company” here in Bristol specifically to ensure we get your device fixed in almost all cases.

Samsung Z Fold5 Known Issues

The factory inner screen protector peels

Every Fold5 leaves the factory with a plastic film glued over the folding screen, and you’re not meant to remove it. It’s soft, too. It scratches at a level two with deeper grooves at a level three. Fingernail territory. Owners report it lifting at around 14 months, once right down the middle of the fold and once from the top edge at about 20 months. One owner’s replacement film was peeling again within a year. One owner says theirs only got worse overnight while it sat closed on a wireless charger. Another blames leaving it half-open. Neither theory is confirmed.

Grit under the film, then a dead spot

Here’s why a lifting film matters. Once there’s a gap, dust can work its way underneath. Then every time you close the phone, that grit gets pressed into the panel below. One Fold5 owner found a small black dot on the crease that kept spreading over two months. That wasn’t the film. That was the display. A peeling film is a small job. A folding panel isn’t.

Plastic trim flaking where you open it

The inner screen is framed by a thin plastic surround. After two years, one owner found it chipping and flaking off along the edge. It went exactly where fingernails dig in to prise the phone open, dozens of times a day. Mostly cosmetic. Still a weird spot to wear through on a phone this expensive.

IPX8 means water, not dust

The X in IPX8 means zero official dust protection. Water is rated to 1.5 metres for 30 minutes. In practice the Fold5 copes better than its rating suggests. One durability test caked the hinge in dirt and it kept folding silently. Nice work, Samsung. The near-gapless fold helps keep pocket debris out as well. The oddity is water. After a spill, one owner found it had seeped into the hinge crevice. It kept reappearing on the screen with every unfold until it finally dried out.
