No Fix No Fee?

We would love to be able to fix every device and would love to be able to give you your device back working as it should be. Some devices are just beyond repair or need to be taken to a Micro-Soldering Specialist. Our expertise has taken years to acquire, so we charge £20 for any device which we are not able to repair. This by no means covers our costs, as we sometimes spend in excess of an hour or two working through different options to get your device working again. In the event that you have called us out to your location, we will only charge you the call out fee plus £10. If we are unable to repair your device, we may still be able to help get your device fixed and may even be able to get your data recovered. We have teamed up with a specialist “Micro-Soldering Board Level Repair Company” here in Bristol specifically to ensure we get your device fixed in almost all cases.

Samsung A40 Known Issues

So here’s one that’s sent a few A40 owners straight back to the shop counter. Unlock the phone and a faint light flickers under the front camera cut-out, worse in bright sunlight, gone the moment you lock and unlock again. It’s not a hardware fault — Samsung’s own support acknowledged it as a software glitch in the display or sensor animation and pushed a fix through a system update. Worth ruling out an update check before booking anything in for board work.

Charging port and charging IC failure

A phone that won’t charge is one of the most common calls on any budget Android handset, and the A40 is no exception. Plug it in and nothing happens, or it trickles in painfully slowly. Most of the time that traces back to the charging port itself — lint-packed contacts, a cracked solder joint, or a charging IC that’s finally given up after years on cheap cables. Port swaps and board-level IC work are different jobs, so proper diagnosis matters before anything gets reflowed.

Stuck at the boot logo after a screen replacement

Worth knowing before starting a screen job on an A40: more than one owner has swapped the display and come back to a phone that won’t get past the boot logo — no recovery, no download mode, nothing. Sometimes it’s a display flex connector that didn’t seat fully on reassembly; sometimes the board was already marginal underneath and the reseat just exposed it. Either way, if a freshly-screened A40 won’t boot, check the connector seating first before writing off the motherboard.

Unresponsive after an official software update

This is the one nobody can plan for: an A40 takes a routine Samsung software update, reboots, and just doesn’t come back — no crash screen, no error, just an unresponsive phone. It’s not the most common fault we’d expect, but it’s documented enough on the forums to be worth knowing about before assuming hardware failure. A force-restart is worth trying first; if that doesn’t bring it back, it’s usually a firmware reflash that’s needed, not a board repair.

Liquid damage: the board often outlasts the screen

Water damage on the A40 tells an interesting story — the motherboard is often tougher than the screen. We’ve seen reports of an A40 that took a dunking, dried out properly, and the processor still rang and vibrated fine, while the display stayed completely dead. That tracks with what we generally see: a screen’s fine flex connectors are usually the first casualty, not the main board. The catch is corrosion doesn’t stop once the phone’s dry — it’s progressive, so a device that seems to have mostly survived can still fail months later.
