No Fix No Fee?

We would love to be able to fix every device and would love to be able to give you your device back working as it should be. Some devices are just beyond repair or need to be taken to a Micro-Soldering Specialist. Our expertise has taken years to acquire, so we charge £20 for any device which we are not able to repair. This by no means covers our costs, as we sometimes spend in excess of an hour or two working through different options to get your device working again. In the event that you have called us out to your location, we will only charge you the call out fee plus £10. If we are unable to repair your device, we may still be able to help get your device fixed and may even be able to get your data recovered. We have teamed up with a specialist “Micro-Soldering Board Level Repair Company” here in Bristol specifically to ensure we get your device fixed in almost all cases.

Samsung A80 Known Issues

Camera won’t move if the phone is lying flat

The A80’s rear camera doesn’t just pop up — it rises and then spins around to face front, and the whole circus runs off a single stepper motor. Lay the phone flat on a desk and try to open the camera app, and that motor jams: the rise motion needs the flip to complete, and the flip has nowhere to go against a flat surface, so neither happens. This was reproduced twice in independent testing, so it’s a real mechanical limitation baked into the design, not wear or debris. If a customer says the camera “won’t open” but only on a table or in a case cradle, check the surface before touching the motor.

Zero water resistance, and it’s the camera’s fault

Nowhere on the spec sheet does this phone claim any IP rating, and a teardown confirms exactly why: that motorised camera needs a genuinely large opening cut into the rear housing so it can rise and rotate freely, and you can’t gasket a hole that size while still letting a mechanism move through it. That’s a direct consequence of the camera design, not corner-cutting elsewhere — Samsung still used a strong rear-glass adhesive regardless, so a solid-feeling seal on the outside tells you nothing about what’s protected on the inside. Treat any moisture exposure on this model as a real risk, not a “probably fine.”

Touchscreen goes unresponsive after waking from sleep

A number of A80 owners report the screen lighting up fine after the phone wakes from lock, but the touchscreen itself stops registering any input. The workaround some have found — opening the camera app and backing straight out again — brings the display back to life until the next lock cycle, which points to the touch controller not re-initialising properly on wake rather than a cracked digitizer. It shows up intermittently rather than on every unit, so don’t expect it on every A80 that comes through the door, but if a customer describes exactly this pattern, start by reseating or testing the display assembly rather than assuming a full screen replacement is needed.
