If We Come To You

We know you are busy, so we offer a service where we come to you. We will arrive in a Red DrFixit Van at your home or work or wherever you want. Our vans are fully fitted with all the necessary tools to get your device working in no time. Did I mention our call out charge starts from only £15 to come to you? I am sure you agree… that level of convenience makes perfect sense. To find out more, please visit our page If We Come To You.

No Fix No Fee?

We would love to be able to fix every device and would love to be able to give you your device back working as it should be. Some devices are just beyond repair or need to be taken to a Micro-Soldering Specialist. Our expertise has taken years to acquire, so we charge £20 for any device which we are not able to repair. This by no means covers our costs, as we sometimes spend in excess of an hour or two working through different options to get your device working again. In the event that you have called us out to your location, we will only charge you the call out fee plus £10. If we are unable to repair your device, we may still be able to help get your device fixed and may even be able to get your data recovered. We have teamed up with a specialist “Micro-Soldering Board Level Repair Company” here in Bristol specifically to ensure we get your device fixed in almost all cases.

12 Month Warranty

We will not use cheap parts and will certainly not do a botch job either. You can rely on us. If you have any problems after the repair has been completed, just give us a call.

Google Pixel 6 Known Issues

The fingerprint reader is fussy

The Pixel 6 moved Google’s fingerprint reader from the back of the phone to under the screen, and it’s never been the phone’s strong point. Owners describe it as slow and hesitant, and registering the same finger twice doesn’t really help. It can also ignore you on the lock screen with the fingerprint icon sitting right there, so you end up tapping or swiping just to wake the thing. One owner who has kept using theirs for years says it’s fine with dry hands, but the moment your fingers are even slightly wet, forget it. So, before assuming it’s broken, dry your hands, wipe the smudge off that patch of glass and try again.

Repair note: the fingerprint reader after a repair

The Pixel 6’s under-screen reader isn’t a plug-and-play part. A replacement fingerprint sensor has to be paired to the phone using Google’s own software before it’ll work. On the forums, Pixel 6 owners have also reported the fingerprint option disappearing from the settings altogether. The first question other owners asked back was whether the phone had recently had its screen replaced. So, if your Pixel 6 has had screen work done elsewhere and the fingerprint option has vanished, tell us when you bring it in.

Signal that’s weaker than you’d expect

The Pixel 6 uses a Samsung-made modem, and reviewers picked up on its signal performance at launch. One owner put the same SIM in an old Pixel 2 XL and the Pixel 6 side by side. The Pixel 6’s reading came out around 20 points weaker. Another owner who has used one for years says updates have eased things, but you can’t patch hardware, and some people still report dead zones. But there’s a catch: the signal meter on this phone can read low while still holding a perfectly usable connection. Low bars on their own don’t mean much. Calls dropping or data dying in places where other phones cope is the pattern to watch for. If yours has suddenly got much worse than it used to be, that’s different, and it’s worth getting checked.

Gets hot under sustained heavy use

The Pixel 6 runs Google’s first-generation Tensor chip (simply called “Google Tensor”), and that chip has a reputation for heat. It’s earned. For everyday stuff like messaging, browsing and streaming, it’s fine. Push it for long stretches, though, with a demanding game, a long run of 4K recording outdoors in summer, or sometimes even a long video call or sat-nav session, and it warms up quickly. In games it backs off performance soon after. No big surprise, then, if a Pixel 6 gets toasty halfway through a gaming session. If it’s getting hot while doing very little, that isn’t the pattern owners describe.
