No Fix No Fee?

We would love to be able to fix every device and would love to be able to give you your device back working as it should be. Some devices are just beyond repair or need to be taken to a Micro-Soldering Specialist. Our expertise has taken years to acquire, so we charge £20 for any device which we are not able to repair. This by no means covers our costs, as we sometimes spend in excess of an hour or two working through different options to get your device working again. In the event that you have called us out to your location, we will only charge you the call out fee plus £10. If we are unable to repair your device, we may still be able to help get your device fixed and may even be able to get your data recovered. We have teamed up with a specialist “Micro-Soldering Board Level Repair Company” here in Bristol specifically to ensure we get your device fixed in almost all cases.

Samsung A70 Known Issues

Crackling, rasping loudspeaker after moisture gets in

Here we have an A70 whose loudspeaker crackles and rasps on anything louder than a whisper. The instinct is to order a speaker. Test first. On the ones we see, the audio IC that drives the loudspeaker has been corroded by water that found its way into the phone, and the speaker itself is fine. That distinction matters to the bill: a loudspeaker swap is a straightforward job, a corroded audio IC is board-level work under a microscope. We do not replace parts we have not tested.

Charging that starts, then quietly stops

Plug an A70 in and it looks healthy — 1.3A going in — and then a while later it is not charging at all. Owners describe it coming and going for weeks. What does that mean? Is it the port? Sometimes. But one owner had the port replaced and the fault carried straight on, and the real culprit turned out to be the ribbon carrying the port back to the board. Another A70 needed a jumper on the board where a track had failed. Test, then replace.

Absolutely no power and totally dead

Before anyone talks about a new battery, the board goes on a supply and the current draw gets read. An A70 pulling far more current than it should is not asleep — something on it is shorted. Coat the board in rosin, apply power, and the part that heats up gives itself away. On these, it is often the power management IC that has failed. That is component-level replacement, and it costs considerably more than the battery job most owners walk in expecting.

Touches in the middle of the screen stop registering

The A70’s touch fault has a shape to it. Hold a finger at the edge of the screen — a game’s movement stick, say — and touches in the middle of the panel stop registering. Multi-touch test apps show it plainly. Typing slows, scrolling turns sticky. Some owners had it clear after a system update and then come back; others never saw it at all. That behaviour tells you the panel’s touch handling is at fault, not broken glass, so do not let anyone sell a screen on this symptom alone.

Wi-Fi that drops and reconnects on its own

One long-running A70 complaint has nothing to do with damage at all. The Wi-Fi drops, reconnects, drops again, on a router every other device in the house is happy with. One owner ran every test Samsung’s support suggested, installed every update offered, and still had it — and put it down to a weak aerial in the phone. We have to be 100% upfront about this one: nothing has been shown to cure it, so a shop quoting to replace hardware for it is guessing.

A black screen that comes and goes for months

Here is one worth ruling out before the phone is ever opened. An A70 owner lived with a black screen that came and went for months — reboots, waiting it out, the lot — and found the cure was taking the phone out of a magnetic case they had been using. The phone has behaved since. What does a case have to do with a dead display? We do not have a measurement to offer you. But removing the case and running the phone for a day costs nothing, and it comes before anyone quotes for a panel.
