If We Come To You

We know you are busy, so we offer a service where we come to you. We will arrive in a Red DrFixit Van at your home or work or wherever you want. Our vans are fully fitted with all the necessary tools to get your device working in no time. Did I mention our call out charge starts from only £15 to come to you? I am sure you agree… that level of convenience makes perfect sense. To find out more, please visit our page If We Come To You.

No Fix No Fee?

We would love to be able to fix every device and would love to be able to give you your device back working as it should be. Some devices are just beyond repair or need to be taken to a Micro-Soldering Specialist. Our expertise has taken years to acquire, so we charge £20 for any device which we are not able to repair. This by no means covers our costs, as we sometimes spend in excess of an hour or two working through different options to get your device working again. In the event that you have called us out to your location, we will only charge you the call out fee plus £10. If we are unable to repair your device, we may still be able to help get your device fixed and may even be able to get your data recovered. We have teamed up with a specialist “Micro-Soldering Board Level Repair Company” here in Bristol specifically to ensure we get your device fixed in almost all cases.

12 Month Warranty

We will not use cheap parts and will certainly not do a botch job either. You can rely on us. If you have any problems after the repair has been completed, just give us a call.

Samsung Note 8 Known Issues

Won’t charge or turn on after running flat

This is the Note 8 fault with the most reports in our sources, and it follows a very particular pattern. The battery hits 0%, the phone switches off, and after that it won’t charge or boot, even after hours on the original charger. On its own, that could be any flat lithium battery. But two accounts show it’s something more. One owner had the battery replaced after it happened. Two weeks later, the phone did exactly the same thing on the brand-new battery. Another owner took theirs to an authorised Samsung repair centre, which replaced the charge port and the battery. It still wouldn’t charge. Only a new mainboard fixed it. So the problem points to the charging circuitry on the board, not the battery. Most reports come from US and Canadian owners with Snapdragon models. At least one UK-spec SM-N950F owner ran into the same thing and was told it was a motherboard defect. Not every Note 8 does this. There are home tricks that sometimes wake a dead phone, like repeatedly plugging and unplugging it, or charging on a wireless pad and a cable at the same time. They don’t cure anything. One owner got their phone to boot that way, and then it stopped charging at 60%.

Wireless charging that drains instead of charging

A handful of Note 8 owners describe their phone sitting on Samsung’s own fast wireless charging pad, reporting that it’s charging, while the percentage goes down. The usual first advice is to blame the plug or the cable, and sometimes that is the answer. But one owner’s account is harder to explain away. Their Note 8 used to charge on the Samsung pad, then stopped charging on all three pads in the house. With the same Samsung cable, those pads still charged their S8 and S7 without complaint. If the pads work and only the phone doesn’t, the fault is on the phone’s side. The sources don’t say which variant these owners had.

A fingerprint sensor you can barely reach

Samsung put the Note 8’s fingerprint reader on the back, right next to the dual cameras and near the top of a 6.3-inch phone. One durability tester joked that nothing could ever reach it up there, your own fingers included. A reviewer who used the phone daily for a month found that a normal grip meant shuffling the phone up in their hand every time they unlocked it. They then tried the alternatives. The iris scanner was slow and temperamental, and face unlock stopped working in low light. In the end they just used a pattern. It’s not a fault that needs repairing. But if your fingerprint unlock seems unreliable, check whether you’re actually reaching the sensor before assuming it’s broken.

Samsung Note 8 Specifications

The Samsung Note 8 has a 6.3-inch Super AMOLED screen (1440 x 2960). UK and European phones (SM-N950F) run Samsung’s Exynos 8895, while the US and China versions used Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835. It has 6GB of RAM with 64GB, 128GB or 256GB of storage, and the dual-SIM model takes a microSD card in the SIM tray.

On the back are a 12MP main camera and a 12MP 2x telephoto, both with optical stabilisation. The 8MP selfie camera sits beside a dedicated iris scanner. The battery is 3300mAh, with 15W wired charging and wireless charging. It’s Gorilla Glass 5 front and back on an aluminium frame, rated IP68, with the S Pen stylus, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a fingerprint reader on the back.
