If We Come To You

We know you are busy, so we offer a service where we come to you. We will arrive in a Red DrFixit Van at your home or work or wherever you want. Our vans are fully fitted with all the necessary tools to get your device working in no time. Did I mention our call out charge starts from only £15 to come to you? I am sure you agree… that level of convenience makes perfect sense. To find out more, please visit our page If We Come To You.

No Fix No Fee?

We would love to be able to fix every device and would love to be able to give you your device back working as it should be. Some devices are just beyond repair or need to be taken to a Micro-Soldering Specialist. Our expertise has taken years to acquire, so we charge £20 for any device which we are not able to repair. This by no means covers our costs, as we sometimes spend in excess of an hour or two working through different options to get your device working again. In the event that you have called us out to your location, we will only charge you the call out fee plus £10. If we are unable to repair your device, we may still be able to help get your device fixed and may even be able to get your data recovered. We have teamed up with a specialist “Micro-Soldering Board Level Repair Company” here in Bristol specifically to ensure we get your device fixed in almost all cases.

12 Month Warranty

We will not use cheap parts and will certainly not do a botch job either. You can rely on us. If you have any problems after the repair has been completed, just give us a call.

Samsung S20+ Plus Known Issues

The screen quietly drops to 60Hz once the Exynos 990 warms up

The S20+ was sold on its 120Hz screen. But the UK model runs Samsung’s Exynos 990, and that chip warms up fast. Once the phone reaches about 40°C, it caps the display at 60Hz, and 120Hz only comes back after the temperature falls. One owner of the 5G model (SM-G986B) on XDA put it bluntly: the only software fix they could see Samsung making was more throttling. So this is the phone protecting itself, not a panel on its way out. Fitting a new screen won’t change a thing, because there’s nothing wrong with the one it has.

A green or pink vertical line that shows up without a drop

One S20+ owner, two years into owning the phone, put it down at breakfast and picked it up with a solid green line running down the display. There was no drop and no crack. Restarting didn’t clear it. The line showed up from the boot screen onwards and was still there in safe mode, which rules out an app or a setting and points at the panel itself. They also report that plenty of other S20+ owners were seeing the same green or pink lines, and that Samsung’s service centre called it physical damage anyway. Later on the whole screen turned to white static, and what finally sorted it was a replacement display. One useful detail from their story: with the screen unusable, they still got their data off by plugging the phone into Samsung DeX, because everything behind the broken panel was still working.

Samsung S20+ Plus Specifications

The Samsung S20+ has a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen (1440 x 3200) that can run at 120Hz, though 120Hz works at Full HD resolution, with 60Hz at the full QHD setting. UK and European phones run Samsung’s Exynos 990, while the US version used Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865. It was sold as a 4G model (SM-G985F) with 128GB of storage and 8GB of RAM, and a 5G model (SM-G986B) that also came with 256GB or 512GB and up to 12GB of RAM. Both take a microSD card in the SIM tray.

The rear cameras are a 12MP main and a 64MP telephoto, both with optical stabilisation, a 12MP ultra-wide and a small 3D depth (ToF) sensor, with a 10MP selfie camera. The battery is 4500mAh, with 25W wired, 15W wireless and 4.5W reverse wireless charging. It’s Gorilla Glass 6 front and back on an aluminium frame, rated IP68, with an ultrasonic fingerprint reader under the screen.
